My husband was offered a better job opportunity by his company. However, it means we will have to relocate. I love everything St. Louis has to offer making me really hesitant to move anywhere with the family. Having good soccer programs and baseball leagues is very important to us. I'm also happy not having to deal with the traffic and toll roads I grew up with in Chicago.

Our family is outgrowing the 810 sq.ft. apartment quickly, and the homes I am finding in Rockton are HUGE for the price making it very tempting to leave the familiar and try something new.

My questions are:
*What is the soccer/baseball scene like in Rockford?
*What is your take on this growing city (Rockton)?
*Is this a diverse city, because I am bilingual and would like to learn other languages?
*Great place for families?
*Area flooding? We had our share of flooding in St. Louis.

Thank you for any input! Moving stinks period! I really need to know if it would be worth it to uproot everyone.

Rockford traffic is not bad; actually it's better than St. Louis traffic. Rockton is a great place for families and schools are great. It's not diverse though.

Rockton is a small very small town so diversity lives elsewhere.

Nothing to make Rockton grow any time soon.
NO major flooding, a little near the rivers, but that is expected.

If you can stay in St. Louis, do it. I've moved in recently and wow, the liberal politics here are insane...as are the taxes.

The state as a whole is just crazy. I live downstate...and around here it's actually fairly conservative. But the state is massively in debt. It's run by Chicago politics. Sales tax is like 10%.

I'm exaggerating a bit...I like my town. But I'm sick of the overtaxing, and the nanny-state mentality from any government entity.

I think the pressing issue is you should have relocated somewhere else, perhaps a more 'bible belt'-like location.

Completely agree. I moved here from Texas earlier this year. I love many things about Chicago, but this state is so broken that it's past fixing. The corruption, nanny mentality, and democrat politics are so ingrained that you'll never be able to rid the state of it.

They keep kicking the budget can down the road. Eventually they'll reach the end of the road (after raising taxes a bunch more times) and find out there isn't any money to pay the bills. The people who are getting $100K+ a year in pensions will be screwed.

Im not even conservative, in fact, I completely despised the politics in Texas too. But at least the conservatives know how to manage the state financially. They aren't promising $100K/year pensions with no money in the bank.
