What if every single property owner in IL refused to pay their outrageous prop tax bills, but instead only paid what is reasonable, say 1% of the property's worth.

If everyone did this, it would amount to a state-wide revolution and something drastic would get done in Springfield. If the teachers get pay cuts? Too bad. Strike and you're fired.

Problem is, there is NO WAY 100% of tax payers would agree to something this radical. Sad...

Too many people are sheep and this would never happen. That being said I emailed Illinois Policy and asked them to organize a demonstration on behalf of taxpayers, they said the message is spread across better through the interwebs. Conservatives have never had a strong ground game, that needs to change in Illinois.

The government would just seize people's houses and sell them. I think at some point if they keep taxing people out of their houses Ilinois Dems will run into a second ammendment solution as the president would say.

I would leave them nothing to seize but a very very expensive mess.
Search foreclosure vandalism then click images. Many people trash the house before they steal it.
The trick to revolting against government slavery is to quit producing for them.

You don't need 100%. They would be completely overwhelmed if 20% told them to F off. Then more people would start doing it.

A bonanza for speculators, who would get to buy property from the counties for back taxes at a fraction of assessed value. True, even now property owners fail to pay taxes and they get sold for taxes. But the number would balloon. Housing in Chicago area is already more affordable than on the coasts, it would become more so. And commercial property owners can join in. Let that office building get sold to your competition! Sure, property owners would lose big. Come on, owners. Default on your taxes, at great personal expense, for the greater good!

As property taxes continue to go up, housing values go down. While this isn't good for current home-owners or anyone trying to make massive profits on their housing (basically the boomer generation who purchased their homes for ~300% less than what they are now valued at), it's good for anyone looking to move in or upgrade.

Basically, it will all balance out. People only have a limited amount of money to spend on housing. If, for example, people only have $2,000 a month to spend on housing and the tax bill is $1,000, then the value of the house will drop to fit the remaining budget.

It doesn't matter how much damage you do. They will force sale of your $200k house, auction it to a flipper for $75k or whatever, and take their $20k or whatever taxes they feel are due.

That is why the scummycraps love property taxes, they can raise it to whatever they want in a dark room deep in the bowels of government without voter scrutiny, transparency, or a formal majority vote in a governing body and if the homeowner resists they just lien the property and force sale since they control titles.

As for the Kulaks all they accomplished was create a famine that killed millions of citizens while the Communist party leaders responsible for the policies still got fat taking care of themselves first like the government of Illinois. Just look at Kim Jong Un or Maduro. Their people are starving but they still live in luxury. It is the same with the Democrats and their cronies. They take care of themselves to the detriment of the people.

Legal cannabis will bring in a billion a year, and JB has more ideas as well. Don't panic, it will get better, even if not as fast as you hope. Yes, IL residents have been over-taxed, I will agree. Best wishes.

No it won't. California is 4x the population of Illinois and only brought in $643M in the first year. Assuming that matures and grows to $1B IL can expect about $250M/year in tax revenue. And California is realizing they are OVER-taxing and regulating it to the point where people are continuing to buy cheaper on the black market.

Nasman - I love the idea of Illinois policy organizing a demonstration. It would have to be in Midway and shut down the airport to 1. Get Madigan to resign. That's the only way we move forward with reducing pensions and getting out of debt. I have a couple other 2,3,4 ideas but #1 is the most important.
