Hi,

This January we are moving to the Rockford area. We wanted to buy a house.
Somebody here previously wrote:
"Because of Rockford's school lawsuit years ago, kids are bussed all over the city. Homes that are in surrounding areas (Loves Park, Machesney, Caledonia, Roscoe) all have a portion of their homes going to Rockford schools..."

I wanted to purchase a house in Machesney Park or Loves Park, but I don't like that my kids would have to be bussed to Rockford.

Is there a way to know which areas are bussed or should I buy property in Belvidere instead?
Are those bussing areas constant or does it ever change?
Please, help.

(sorry, posted this in Chicago area by mistake)

Check this link out as to bussing. It appears the areas are always changing.

What I would do is find out what school district your house would be in and call the school in that district and ask them if your child would attend that school. Ask lots and lots of questions.

The school district you probably want to contact is Harlem District #122 (Machesney Park area) or Hononegah District #207 (Roscoe / Rockton area).

Harlem: www.harlem122.org (Harlem High School is the largest high school in the Rockford area; more students than any of the Rockford public high schools)

Hononegah: www.hononegah.org

You would not be considered Rockford District 205 but you would be in Harlems. That is actually a good thing seeing how 205 has gone down hill. Oh and now the 205 school district is neighborhood schooling again so they are no longer bussed all around town
