Default In what area of Indy, or Indiana, should I be looking

I am moving to Indiana (I currently live in Colorado) My purpose and goal is to buy a house there. I have been focusing on Indianapolis almost entirely, looking through
hords of MLS listings trying to find what I am looking for. Please point me
in the right direction since I have mostly been spinning my wheels.
I want to find a house with a large back yard.. maybe 1/2 acre.
I want a tree line along the border of the back yard. And beyond the
tree line should be open farm land. This is my ideal back yard.
What area of Indy might be the best place to do a search?
I have found very little thus far, except for a few houses in
Noblesville.
My only other criteria is that I stay under 140K.
Lafayette might aldo be doable since it is a fairly good sized city,
but I have not yet gotten that far in my searches. Thanks for your input!

Hi Patrickmich,

I will give you my husband (an ex-realtor) and my opinion about our city. We live on the south side toward Greenwood IN. You could find a lot of land like that in this area, plus the crime rate is much better than say the west side. Franklin IN is south of us and is also very nice in that way with lots of land and beautiful farms. If you could afford to go north-east, it is also a nice area to live in. North is good too toward Zionsville. But we love the south side for it's low crime and great shopping at Greenwood mall and the areas around it. We would not live on the west side where my son bought a home because the crime rate is getting worse there. On our way leaving his home we passed a skating rink that had a shooting going on right then!

Good luck.

Greenwood/Franklin is a nice area as is the Avon/Plainfield/Mooresville area. It is on the westside in Hendricks County. I am a realtor and live in that area and know that there are nice homes available in areas that are in a rural type setting but still close to good shopping with good schools. If you are considering moving here and need Moderator cut: realtor soliciting

thank you for your helpful replies. Greenwood does indeed sound good,
along with Franklin. My research tells me that Avon and Plainfield is too expensive for me. I will add your comments to my collection of pertinent notes.
Thanks!

Default nOT IN iNDY

There are some areas like what you want in plainfeild. It is a sort oof suburb to the west of Indy. The city it'self is over crowded all ready. It may too late but Zionsville was a good place a few yrs ago. DO NOT Move to TERRE HAUTE WHAT EVER YOU DO. Go to a homeless shelter anywhere before moving to terre haute.

I'd say Greenwood or Avon/Plainfield/Brownsburg.

I live in Plainfield but I LOVE Greenwood! It has a different "feel" to it. Very friendly. Nice shopping. Just pleasant.

Zionsville is pretty expensive. As is Carmel and Fishers.

I thought Terre Haute was a cut above haha. (there is a thread to that effect). I will know soon enough which landscape has the best feel
around indianapolis (as it pertains to my criteria). I am leaning towards
Greenburg even though I don't know squat about Indy as a whole.
I want some place that has not yet been discovered, and exploited,
as say, Carmel or Fishers (at least this is my impression based on readings)
Do you think Greenburg has that potential? There is a auto plant moving
to that area, correct?

Greensburg is ready for exploitation! It's a bit of a hike from Indy though. If you are looking at Greensburg, try Columbus ... come be my neighbor!

We looked at homes in Greenwood, but every neighborhood we looked in didn't allow fences ... WTHeck? The one we did find where we could build a fence, the people didn't want to give us possession until the end of June ... at least in Columbus, there aren't many HOA's and you can live as you want to live. I'm going to like that after living in all HOA communities.

when you move into a new HOA subdivision around the Indy area, a local watchdog (a/k/a 'snoop') will normally bring over a copy of all the local covenants and restrictions to make sure you don't step out of line. You have to play by the rules and it can make you feel like you're walking on eggs.
