With Swarbrick announcing that he wants to leave for the top job at the NCAA in Indy, ND needs a new AD more than it needs a new Head Football Coach. Vacancies are meant to be filled and not created.

It's nothing confidential and in the public domain. Swarbrick wants the Presidency of the NCAA and it's open after Myles Brand passed away in September. He had previously applied for it but Brand beat him out.

It's out there. Swarbrick was runner up back in 2002 when Myles Brand was selected as President of the NCAA. With Brand now gone, Swarbrick is the leading candidate to fill that spot.

The man who fired Bobby Knight landed the top NCAA job in 2002. Perhaps the man who fires Charlie Weis will get it in 2009 (or in 2010 if it takes that long).

Regarding the Swarbrick/NCAA presidency bit we might have to take that one with a grain of salt, at least for now. I couldn't remember where I'd read it(One ND board or another) so I did some searching of my own. The only mention of current interest comes from a ND blog run by a person with a dubious reputation. The same blog started an "It's Meyer" rumor with pretty much inane claims about the details of the terms. Evidently the person that runs it has been banned from a couple of ND boards for rumor mongering and pot stirring. It says that Swarbrick will be interviewed this week for the job.

Since Swarbrick was once a finalist for the position, it's not outlandish to suggest he would still have interest but that doesn't mean he does at this time. This person probably seized upon his past candidacy and turned it into a current rumor based on "several former ND alums in NCAA headquarters".

If Swarbrick is interviewed this week, maybe the guy does have a scoop but if he doesn't, it's just more bunk.

I think the NCAA job is less prestigious than the ND AD job. The NCAA is a big fat joke ... in large part thanks to Myles Brand, and I won't speak ill of the dead.

I don't want to get anyone in trouble but I am trying to check with a source inside the NCAA.
