That may be accurate, but zip codes can cover a large area. 46229 covers everything from the Post Road Ghetto to Cumberland, which is mostly white and has a per-capita income that's probably above the median household income of the former.accurate , but not precise .

I live a 4 minute drive to Washington Sq. Mall, 2 minutes to Wal-Mart, etc..., so I know the area QUITE well. I've NEVER felt unsafe going to any of the cluster of businesses in that area. I live in the subdivision on German Church, halfway between Washington St and Prospect, and it's a very nice, peaceful area. Even around 21st Post/Mitt, it's a little more sketchy, but you shouldn't have any problems during decent hours.
