Not even buildings considered high rises. I would have lived in broad ripple if here was a nice decent urban apt complex walking distance to the bars. Those are things that makes Indy desirable to young professionals.
Please give examples of ones that were shot down. Also, have you not paid attention to recent news about development downtown and in Broad Ripple? Still, I believe Indy is and always will be a low- to mid-rise city. That's just the market here. There's nothing wrong with that. Indy can still be made more dense and attractive with that kind of development. I can't imagine serious people favor or reject a city based on skyline. Anyone who does is silly or immature.

That is spoken like somebody who comes from a city that has a very modest and unimpressive looking skyline.

I left Indy 7 years ago, but read the news every day. Not going to bother with digging up examples from that long ago. I have no idea what have happened since in BR. I just know the sky line is still unimpressive and the city is still not taken seriously on the national stage.

skyscrapers give a feeling of excitement and wonder..when you visit a city for the first time..driving up i75 and theres the cincy skyline..or driving west and pittsburghs skyline appearing..dont kid yourselves..tall buildings create an exciting atmosphere ,thats why were fascinated by them..cities with a 5 story skyline are about as appealing as a strip mall..

Indy is far from being one of the largest metros, so it'll likely never be taken too seriously. That's OK. Madison, Wisconsin, is an example of a city most don't take all that seriously, but it is, in many studies, one of the best places to live in the U.S. And how about Madison's skyline?

A few more apartments, a couple more bars and restaurants, a parking garage and now this 5 story mid-rise that will hopefully have Whole Foods on the first floor.

Panel approves public financing for Broad Ripple development

Those who keep saying that an impressive skyline doesn't matter...

When/if Indianapolis builds another skyscraper downtown, you have no right to brag about how nice if a building it is.

I feel like citizens of Indianapolis love bragging by saying things like....

"Oh! Lucas Oil is the best NFL stadium ever!" Ever been to Dallas?

"The Indy 500 is the best sporting event in the world!" TV ratings are horrible and attendance continues to drop.

"Carmel and Fishers are the safest cities in the world!" Darn near every large city has suburbs on the safe city list.

"The Marriott Hotel is the nicest Marriott in the world!" Yeah it is a really nice hotel actually. I wouldn't complain if I stayed there for a night.

But my point is that there is nothing wrong at all with having pride for your city, but don't be arrogant and hypocritical, that's where I lose respect for Indianapolis citizens. Nothing in Indianapolis is "the best" in it's own category besides the speedway, (the Indy 500 is not the best sporting event in the world, but it is the best racing event in the world.)

I like Indianapolis, but there are to many people here that have never traveled to a bigger city and are full of arrogance for my liking.

So when Indianapolis builds their next large building, if you're saying an impressive skyline doesn't matter, than you have no right to brag about the new building to your friends and or family outside of Indianapolis. It will be hypocrisy.
