How often do you watch the market movement and your investment balance? -daily (like a trader), spontaneously, or only for major news/event, or once a year (some people do that)?
How much time do you spend researching the stocks/funds/sectors?

About never. I own Vanguard Wellington, some ETF that track the SnP 500 and a couple other large cap dividend payers (PEP, T) that I'll probably never sell.
Daily, but I do individual stocks. I am not always trading, but I check on my watch list to see how they're moving. The time I check things least is actually when I'm down on my positions. I also read Yahoo! Finance and watch CNBC.
EDIT: A good chunk of time is trying to learn how different aspects of the market operate, ways to invest, the different types of investments, and things like that.

As an index investor I don't spend any time researching any of that. The only thing I do is think about rebalancing or whether I want to be more on the stock side or the bond side as money comes in that I want to invest.
