We can't do that in Mississippi. Too many people who have the power to decide whats best for YOU morally. Don't get me wrong, I love morals, but I will decide my own thank you.

I talk about this type of thing all the time, and again, I'm not trying to make Jackson into Birmingham. I just want it to be Montgomery plus some (which is very similar to what you suggest). Just a decent place for people in Mississippi to come and do what they want to do.

So why again do you fight me at every turn and say this can't be done in Jackson? Maybe it's time for a little optimism for a change.

Times are changing. See the lottery vote today. People are getting fed up with the nonsense.

We have too many casinos already. One in Jackson is just going to take business from them. I don’t know if anyone has ever been to Atlantic City, but the place is far from prosperous.

That basically is what the city wanted to do with the Farish Street project but the developer ran into funding issues and couldn't get the project finished. Farish in general is probably still tied up in legal hell, though I haven't really kept up with the status of all of the lawsuits that were flying in the fallout of the project.

The problem is that they picked the wrong place. Fondren/Belhaven is the place to be. Farish has potential, but it looks more like some sort of New Orleans ghetto than a possible entertainment venue.

Need to protect that area, and then downtown, as much as possible, with police presence. Can't be having people get shot in their cars on Fortification, and beaten to death at Waffle Houses on High Street. Can't happen.

The lottery was rejected one day, then the next day it passed WITH NO CHANGES. Seems fishy.

Forget Farish street. That was never the correct location. Too run down, too close to residential areas. And they kept focusing on blues clubs, which sounds good in theory but no one really cares about. Notice that Underground 119 tried to focus on blues, and they are now closed.

The correct area is around Hal and Mals. Completely commercial area, no residents to complain or get displaced, not starting from scratch (HnM and Martin's already there).

Are you saying that Mississippi politics may be crooked? If so, do you realize that is the same thing I was saying with my comment? I was insinuating that maybe someone got paid to vote the other way.
