IMO it doesn't have to be anything tangible. Just get the name out there and put it on people's minds. Air some commercials in neighboring states, billboards, etc.

Ya know, I've never really ever seen anything about the Mississippi Braves outside of the Jackson area and even though I have season tickets there's never really that much publicity. Sure, not a large part of brand, but it definitely has some merits.

Our local team did the whole "theme" thing to a tee - they're a farm team for the Boston Red Sox, so the city helped them build a ball field that's a smaller replica of Fenway Park, complete with its own Green Monster. The team's name is the Drive (with the automotive industry in the area, and the new CU-ICAR, an automotive engineering graduate school & research park located here). The team is very involved in the community doing all sorts of fund-raisers & events during the off-season. It's really about the team's owners & management getting the name "out there".

It's suppose to be "the City with Soul" but they don't promote it like that.

It's more promoted like
"Send your grandparents to Mississippi, it's like coming home. We'll leave the light on for ya"....

Mississippi = retirees dream.

MIssissippi wasn't dubbed "the closed society" for nothing.

You're comparing a potential marketing scheme for Jackson in the year 2010 to a quote from the civil rights era, circa 1960's?

the ideas are 2010,

You can't focus on the future if you keep talking about the past.

I'm not. I'm trying to get the past thinking to catch up to the future.

I can't help that the majority think like this. But I can help it change.
