I've read the Pros and Cons of this but in my situation, I'm looking for some advice.
In late January, I heard of a position in a local office that will be available in March (one week from today) through a long-time friend who has close ties to the office. This position was never advertised but they have received several resumes through word of mouth. I've been keeping in touch with my friend to see if she heard anything. She told me last week that there were two people from the office to see her asking questions about me. Of course, she made me look good. But they did say they were impressed with my resume and mine was the only one with the experience they need. My friend was going to nonchalantly check with them this week but I don't know if I should be following up.
Do you think I should call them and follow up on my resume? The position was never advertised so I'm not sure what to do.
I'm not sure calling the company itself is a good idea unless they've already talked to you first - cold calls about jobs might come across as odd, unless it's a small company and they already know you in some fashion aside from just having your resume.
