Lie. Almost everyone has some kind of lie on their resume. You have to, just make sure you cover your tracks and it is not too obvious.

This "be honest" is pure crap.

My friends who are now cops LIED LIED LIED on their background packets. My friends (including me) told the truth and were DQ'ed early on. My friends just kept with the lies and were able to pass the lie detector.

If law enforcement can't find out your lies without you giving it up, how private companies going to find out?

Best advice I can give, don't make a big deal out of it when it comes up. If you act like its not a big deal, they won't care as much.

I would go with that YOU left the company and have a reason for it (graduate school, alternative career path, family related illness...) Give dates that certify that you left on the dates that you were terminated in case the prospective company calls up HR and asks about dates of employment.

Remember, it's against the law for a company to tell ANYONE why you were fired over the phone other than reporting dates of employment. And even for a recruiter or employer to get to this point is quite rare.

Turn a negative into a positive. Flaunt all the positive experience you got even though it might make you puke in an interview when you think of your POS boss.

Getting fired is part of life. Cover your ass, have the right references, and make yourself shine and you will be fine.
