I would not hire you if I thought you had been drinking before the interview, especially if it was a morning one-- and imagine it would be the most talked about interview at that company that day. The alcohol smell may come from your pores - just don't do it.
If your anxiety is bad now, how will it be when you are wondering whether or not they can tell you had a drink?
Only time I did was when I had a terrible hangover from the office party the night before and was interviewing for a promotion. All internal interviews, and that place was full of alcoholics anyway. I mean like earlier that morning the boss came around with a bottle of Jameson and was pouring it into anyone's coffee alcoholics. It's not like it was an everyday thing, but definitely a work hard, drink like fish place when you're not. Nobody was really working that day anyway.
I am glad you changed your mind with the alcohol. I have two suggestions
Do mock interviews with someone other than your husband. A complete stranger is best.
Make sure you wear something that you are very comfortable in. Obviously it has to be business attire, I am not suggesting sweats, but make sure it fits real well. It will give you more confidence.
Drinking before a job interview is probably ok if you are applying for a roadie job with Motley Crue, seeking a position as a soldier with La Cosa Nostra or perhaps looking to become an exotic dancer or drummer or tattoo artist.
Probably not that good of an idea if you are seeking employment in the corporate world.
Don't have a drink before an interview, not even one. If they even think you have been drinking they aren't going to hire you.
What I found out works great for me is working out, really hard, before an interview. Do a bunch of pushups, situps, sumo-squads, lunges, pull ups, a quick run, or whatever you can before you take the "before interview shower". Something that gets your blood flowing. For me it seems to slow everything down and keep me calm. I'll still be a little nervous before, but that's human.
Well, just had the interview this morning. No booze, lol. Just my usual sugar free Red Bull.
It lasted a good hour and fifteen minutes, and although I was awkward at first (speaking too quickly, wording things in fluffy ways), it seemed to get much better as it went on.
All of you who said rehearsal doesn't really help, was right. It went right out the window, and I just had to speak more naturally -- which might have been a good thing. She seemed to really like my ideas and input.
I guess we'll see if I screwed up the interview or not, and if I get this job or not. Fingers crossed...
I once sat in a group new hire orientation of about 10 people years ago, and one woman was obviously drunk.
The HR lady whispered into her ear while we were going on break, and when we came back, the lady's stuff was all packed up and gone. She was escorted out.
It's so not cool to drink when it comes to interviewing for a job, and drinking before a new hire orientation.

Alcohol = Red Bull
One is a downer the other an upper
Good luck.
