We have a thread on worst questions, so it is only fair to ask what are some of the worst interview answers. Share your experiences from either being the interviewer or giving the answer yourself. Here's mine:

I was interviewing an admissions coordinator. I started the interview with, "Tell me a little about yourself". She proceeded to talk about her past work experience and told me in detail how she sued her last employer for harassment. She clarified that they were always "on" her to complete all this "stuff" by a certain time. She lost the first suit but was appealing the case. Needless to say, I asked a for more general questions and thanked her for her time.

We were interviewing for an entry level job and, I don't recall the exact question because the position was done away with years ago, but the gist of the question was along the lines of, "What do you do when you realize that you have made a mistake in your work?" The response was, "A man never admits that he is wrong." Thanks for coming in. Next.

I interviewed a guy one time and asked him where he wanted to be in 5 years. His answer was "I wanna have a Monday through Friday, 8 to 5. I wanna have a real job like you too..."

So I guess the job I was hiring for wasn't a real job. That wasn't the only reason why I didn't hire him, but this answer definitely did not help. Thanks but no thanks...

Not quite an answer, but someone I interviewed came to an interview dressed like this (mind you that this was for an internet banking software company - very conservative):

I had a guy with a pretty long gap in employment and when asked said he was recovering in a work related injury. I commented it must have been pretty serious to be out that long.

He replied that he milked the claim a bit.

Anyone applied for an American Airlines work-at-home job?

I get the feeling they wanted you to answer from the point of view of an asocial shut-in.

At my previous job, someone came in for an interview and was asked why they wanted to be in natural mining and they said "Because I like the smell of gas."

I once had a group interview to be a cashier at a clothing store. They basically cram 20 to 30 people in a room and ask a question and everyone tries to out do each others answers. Well, one guy just slept through the whole thing then when his name wasnt called out at the end (meaning he didnt get the job), he lashed out in a profanity laden tirade.

Not quite worst interview answer but the guy slept through the entire interview then became angry he didnt get the job

At a 24/7 company with rotating shifts we asked "If required, would you be willing to work the overnight shift?" One potential employee's answer was "My mom wants me home before 11PM." He was a fresh college graduate, but still, the shift requirements were clearly posted on the job listing.
