Looking east along Kansas from near River. Union is the first cross street. The houses showing their backsides are along Pendleton, as are the next row facing the camera.

Union is the street nearest the camera. The next row of houses on the right half are along Pendleton.

Again Union is the nearby street, Pendelton behind it.

Looking across Walnut to Union and then Pendleton.

Looking south on Pendleton from Lexington. The LDS church is across Walnut at the bottom of the hill where the WCHS Jr High kids used to play during P.E.

Union is near, Pendleton next.

Enjoy!

Thank you! I knew you would know!

Now, a mea culpa. Whilst looking at my notes for the exact Pendleton address, I realize that the true address is 625 W Lexington. Is that at the corner of the then-Pendleton? It what is now known as Temple Dr where Pendleton was?

There is a white house standing along on the Temple Dr intersection? Is that 625 by any chance?

The 625 address matches the historic year in question. So I must have confused myself by thinking they lived ON Pendleton, rather that @ Pendleton.

Do any of the photos show that intersection?

Both 623 and 625 W Lexington are gone, with the new Temple Dr. running through what had been 623's lot. Pendleton ran a bit west of the new Temple Dr.

For a great overview of the changes in that neighborhood use Google Earth and activate the look-back feature. The 1990 view was taken during the project, but still shows the old streets.

Well, damn. I was hoping that was 625. What was the auto dealership in the brick building further east?

I see the house numbers on the opposite side, so I can picture where 625 was. All the times we drove by that spot, so close to the old HS (where my Mom attended) and her residence nearby on Maple, and not once do I recall either parent mentioning they had lived there. Or maybe I forgot.

I will check out Google Earth. Thanks for that suggestion.

I have two friends who belong to the Church of Latter Day Saints. One lives in Arizona and the other lived in New Jersey in 2019. In May of 2019, I had cancer surgery and lost a kidney along the way. I have CT-Scans every six months and they have yet to find any evidence that the kidney is returning.

Prior to my surgery, my friend in NJ said she would request that my name be entered into the temple in NYC for prayers and my friend in Arizona got my name in two temples in Arizona.

I have always found it advantageous to get as much assistance as possible in such cases and prayers from Mormons are just fine with me. And now after more than 2 1/2 years of being cancer-free, I think the prayers worked well.

Nice to hear! Hope you have many more years of good health!

Great idea to check out Google Earth! I never thought of that. This was all new for me as well. I am still going through the photos. I believe the brick building you are referring might have been Moody Motors? That sounds right?

Yup, Moody Motors was in the building where the Sunshine Center was more recently. Good to see you back in the past!
