I didn't say the thing about not going out after dark in midtown. I'm in midtown after dark multiple times per week. And yes, I respect the guy who did say he wouldn't be in midtown after dark and I explained why. You obviously don't, as you're labeling it an unhealthy fear and paranoia. You're failing to realize some people have different standards than yourself. Midtown is not the safest area.

I didn't mean the statement as any disrespect to anyone, just simply a statement.

I have lived in Midtown for 46 yrs. I love it! It is easy to get to many of the entertainment districts, such as Westport, Sprint Center, the Plaza and the Crossroads district. There are incidents in every neighborhood and cities. Some are kept hush-hush, to keep their image up. I live in Valentine and we have a neighborhood Assn. We are all one-family housing, and we look out for each other. Midtown is the best. Oh, another thing, there is a great Community College 4 blocks from me.

Default Midtown

Midtown is has been completely changed - it's not what it used to be. MAC Property Management has renovated about twenty buildings on Armour making them bright and beautiful. I personally am moving to one of the buildings next week and feel perfectly safe. They take extra precautions and have controlled access to all of their buildings and some of the parking lots. People are out walking dogs, jogging, and enjoying life in historic Hyde Park. Really, you can't beat the location - I'm excited to live so close to both the Plaza, Martini Corner, and Westport. I guess my only advice for being safe is to not do anything you wouldn't normally do - don't walk down a sketchy ally way at night by yourself, don't keep your car unlocked, etc.

Is interesting to re-read this thread over 2 years old and the changes that have since occurred. Armour is noticeably transformed compared to just 2 years ago with basically just one major problem building left (and the hood is fighting it) - and it's an awesome neo classic building. Armour used to be known as sex offender row and is now attracting surban white girly girls. I said the N Side of Southmoreland was sketchy 2 years ago - lately it has been improving. The 39th/Broadway to 39th/Main area is sort of improving but still not to where it needs to be. The E Side of Westport is also starting to improve.

Midtown is being boosted by immigrants too, which have a little more optimism and interest in improving the hood than the meth-head status of much of 90's/early 2K Midtown. Meth-heads are being replaced by hipster/ethnic hookah bars.

And Valentine/Uptown Theatre district on W end of Armour is turning into its own formidable nightlife spot. A bunch of places have opened with more planned. Broadway Jazz Club, Uptown Arts Bar, iPho Tower, Hamburger Mary's is moving there, used bookstore, hookah bars, video bar, a few more I can't think of.
