Your posts are interesting and honest, from what I've seen so far.

We are so accustomed to sociopolitical agendas driving the posting here in the KC forum that intellectual independence sticks out plainly from the sore thumbs.

Your recognition of KCI as a great airport gets a rep from me.

I noticed the neighborhood around IKEA posted a lot of "no parking" signs this past week. Is parking that bad at IKEA? A new McDonald's suddenly appeared next door, along with the QT that opened last year.

Just another irrelevant chain that will quickly go out of the spotlight once the initial novelty wears off.

so true, the biggest issue for lazy KC people, they don't want to walk in a new airport. If you saw the size of most Kansas Citians, some walking would be good for them.

That is just offensive and not true at all.

IKEA will be around for a while. Nearly all retail establishments have a limited lifespan, but I think IKEA has a ways to go before they start trending downward. They are just getting into many 2nd and 3rd tier markets (like KC) while they are still doing very well in established big metro locations. The ones near us are don't look like they will be slowing down anytime soon. So long as they don't over expand and keep them in just the top 30 or so markets, I think they will be around for a while.

You will see some of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabella's start to close up pretty soon though and most of those are subsidized by the cities they are in. In ten years, those places are going to be super dated and in need of millions of dollars in remodeling just to keep them fresh and I don't think the cities will fund them the second time around and competition will hurt them.

Does KC still have a D&B? Those are starting to close everywhere.

That's not it at all, as I posted in another post. It's a matter of convenience, not because people don't want to walk. I see people walking and running all the time. People are really health conscious from what I have seen, especially Johnson County. I say especially Johnson County because that's where I live and that's where I see people actively walking, jogging, running, biking, etc. YMCA and Lifetime Fitness and Prairie Life and Sylvester Powell are always full. I assume it is the same elsewhere in Kansas City.

And I went to California expecting to see everyone beautiful people everywhere, all slim and trim and tanned and toned. Nope. I saw just as many overweight people in California as I see in Kansas City and everywhere else.

Kansas City does still have a Dave and Buster's.

I think Ikea will be around for a while too. Two of the main reasons are location and price. They are right in the middle of a large populated area with easy access from lots of other areas. Nebraska Furniture Mart is kind of a long drive and I can see people seeing if they can find what they are looking for at Ikea rather than making the trek out to NFM. Also, I'm sure their money will go further at Ikea than NFM. I don't think NFM is going anywhere, either. I think there is a market for both in KC.

IKEA fills a niche. It's not my niche, but it's a lot of people's niche.
