Looking to move
Does anyone know anything about Grainfield Kansas? We are lookig to relocate to a small town as we think our 8 yr old would benefit. We currently live in Texas in a border town area (12 min drive from Mexico International bridge(s) (4 of them). Things get a little heated here and we are thinking it may be time to move to a more "Americana" type place. Any ifo or help will be appreciated

Any specific reason you want to move to Grainfield?
Is employment a concern?
Theres plenty of small towns that feel like traditional small town america.
If Illegal Immigration is a concern you want to stay away from towns like..
Garden City,Dodge City,Winfield?(Beef-Packing Plants)

Have you ever been to Grainfield? Like Joe stated above, there are many small towns in Kansas that can give you the feel of "Americana", without completely abandoning convenience. Grainfield is at least an hour away from any major shopping centers.

You may want the small town feel but be aware that those small towns often have a very closed society where nearly everyone is related and "outsiders" are not always welcomed with open arms. It could take years for you to "fit" in and if you need a job, have one before you get there. Many of the smaller towns have inexpensive real estate but once you buy it, it can be almost impossible to sell even in the best of times. Few people want an hour commute to work especially on icy or snow covered roads. Many of the smaller towns do not have their own school system. If you know someone already living there, that would be helpful. We have moved to places with the idea that you have, more than one city so been there, done that. Use caution. You need to visit before you decide to move and spend a couple weeks but even then, a tourist spending money in town will see a much more friendly population then when they move in next door. There is no Utopia and those little towns that were backgrounds for the TV shows of the 50's & 60's don't exist.

If you want to move to a small town with an excellent elementary and secondary education system then consider Hays, KS. Population about 20,000. Good medical center, four year university and a well rounded agenda provided by the Hays Recreation Commission for youth and adults. If you would like more information you can e-mail me atModcut- read cd terms of use. Send email contact through a DM if the poster requests additional info

Hays is a nice town. Learn to play Frisbee golf and has a great water park.
