Maybe Kentuckians, once outside of Kentucky, feel disoriented. All Kentuckians know that the most important things in life are UK and UofL basketball and football. By venturing to other places the Kentuckians may be shocked to discover that the planet does not revolve around UK and UofL basketball and football.

SJ and Visvaldis, I don't know where you two get your ideas but I know where you can put them. Visvaldis, I could care less about anything UK or U of L and I know quite a few others that feel the same way. I've been well aware as long as I've been aware of those two schools that nothing revolves around them. So ALL Kentuckians DON'T feel that way. You remind me so much of another big fan of Kentucky who also couldn't say anything good about Kentucky. Finally, myself and a couple others told him if he didn't like it here, pack up and move back to Texas, where he compared everything in Kentucky to. And that he needed to be rubbed down with Preparation H.
SJ, I see you're from California. Have you ever been to Kentucky? We have something in common. We have major earthquake faults here too! All that crap about why Kentuckians don't travel is some of the stupidest stuff I've ever read in here. Well, almost. Visvaldis has you beat by a little bit.

Bottom line is you can't really tell for sure if Kentuckians travel and if so, how often and where. As mentioned many times, how can you make any conclusion based on the timing of your trip and whether or not someone has a KY license plate or whether or not someone is clothed in KY apparel.

Based on my personal sample, most of the people I know are middle class, educated & have disposable income. My middle class contacts have traveled extensively in the US and abroad. The working poor I know do not travel much or do not travel far - Smoky Mtns, Gatlinburg, SC beaches or FL beaches. I see no reason to dog the working poor just because they don't travel much.

A lot of the negative comments are nothing more than cheap shots, stereotypes & comments based on sloppy analysis.

  • Inland western states: good people but if I have family there, they can come up and see me if they want to. Otherwise, I have plenty of good hunting and fishing spots right where I'm at.
  • Midwestern states similar to KY: good people but if I have family there, they can come up and see me if they want to. Otherwise, I have plenty of good hunting and fishing spots right where I'm at.
  • Other Southern states: good people but if I have family there, they can come up and see me if they want to. Otherwise, I have plenty of good hunting and fishing spots right where I'm at.
  • Northeastern states: too many foreigners and metrosexuals, too crowded, everything's unreasonably priced, can't even practice my 2nd Amendment rights
  • Canada: in some places they don't even speak English, in the cities it's probably like New York, in some parts there are probably good hunting and fishing but if I have family there, they can come up and see me if they want to. Otherwise, I have plenty of good hunting and fishing spots right where I'm at.
  • Mexico: that's where all the illegals come from and they don't even speak English
  • Europe: too much Eurotrash who show no gratitude for what the U.S. did for them in WW2, they don't even speak English or speak it right, too many metrosexuals, too crowded, everything's unreasonably priced, can't even practice my 2nd Amendment rights

These explanations could've been longer.
Where is the option to rate this post negatively?

I think you meant...who care about nothing, except guns, jesus, and the kentucky wildcats...

The thing is that many kentuckians (by their attitudes) support this stereotype.

What I've mentioned in posts from months ago...Kentuckians travel to where the military sends them. For many it was the only time outside of the US. But not many will travel for personal interest.

Where is it that you live Visvaldis?

I suppose since you have made such claims, you have the data somewhere to back it up?

That's right...I didn't think so.

Well some data I came across shows the UK Wildcats have seven basketball championships and no Nobel affiliations and the Northwestern Wildcats have 8 Nobel affiliations and no basketball championships.

And the University of Chicago has no basketball championships but 85 Nobel affiliations.

And that the University of Illinois, a mere public school, has 25 Nobel affiliations. But alas, no basketball championships.

WTF do you care? What ties do you have to Kentucky? Have you ever lived here? Do you enjoy going to other forums and running down their home? You must be one pathetic individual. I sort of feel sorry for you. It must be a huge burden going through life as a miserable person.
