Can ya'll tell me anything about Prestonsburg? My son is getting ready to go to a Job Corps site there and I know NOTHING about KY! We are in NC.

County seat of Floyd County, a small town in far Eastern KY. The population is 3,900. I have never been to Prestonsburg, not yet anyway.

I am from Bell County... Pineville, actually, but lived in Middlesboro for many years. I'm pretty sure you should be able to purchase a home for under $90,000. However, the healthcare in Middlesboro is not the best. Most people drive to Knoxville (1 to 1-1/2 hours drive) for healthcare for anything the least bit complicated.

Down Home Kentucky

I'd say Ashland, the proximity to larger cities like Lexington, Huntington and Cincinnati isn't a bad thing.

Not much there, very quiet, traditional little town. I've only driven through, but it's tiny!

Even though it shares many of the same social issues, economic issues, and political issues as eastern Kentucky?

Lemme tell ya somethin', kid, it isn't bad at all if you know how to pick and choose in different aspects of life.

I live in middlesboro and i dont know of any apartments that have a pool with them. There is a city pool by the Y but its mostly kids and teens there. You could always move over the mountain to Tn some aspects are cheaper than you can go thru the tunnel to middlesboro to do your shopping with 0 tax on your food items.

Could you please advise what the weather is like in Ashland, Middlesboro or Prestonsburg? Re: Rain, Winter Snow and of course toronados, etc. We're seniors looking for a place to retire. Thanks.
