How is everybody? Long time no "see"

I passed my entrance exam into the Military. I officially swear in as a MP for the National Guard in September.

Wow that was one heck of a run on sentance. Anyway this will be a retirement home and we would be relocating from a little town about an hour from Cleveland, OH.

We currently live in a log home on about 5 acres. We built a beautiful kennel and truth be told I would take my land and property here and just move it out of the snow and be quite content. We have just completed a 2000 mile road trip to look at some areas of KY, TN, NC and VA. So far we are leaning towards the Knoxville area. Here was our criteria and needing to know if we are on track. We wanted a place not much higher or the same cost of living as the Cleveland area, warmer climate, but not too hot, good medical and vet care, an airport, and away from most natural disasters. We are ex Californians until 11 years ago. We do miss the mountains in CA so that the Knoxville area seemed to meet most if not all of our criteria. I will be still "doing dogs" just on a smaller scale with always having about 5-8 dogs and producing 1-2 litters a year. I won't be building the big beautiful kennel that I have here, but still would love to live in a log home, have about 3-5 acres of good usable land, but close enough (less than an hour) to all the things listed above. Where are the areas to concentrate? We would also like to have a more treed area also with mountains not too far away. Is there such a place that isn't in a neighborhood, and are we right on in our assessment of the Knoxville area?
I would suggest Maryville area, not far from Knoxville but yet still near and mountains and country, its a beautiful area for log cabins.
