Hi,
I'm in town on business until Monday and I brought my wife and 17 month old daughter. We have our car, so my wife and daughter can go out and about while I'm working. We're staying downtown and I was wondering if there's a really nice park with swings, slides and the like within a 10 minute drive that's in a pretty safe area. Thanks

Fort Kid is a wonderful playground built for the World's Fair. It's across the street from the the Knoxville Museum of Art.
There's also lots of stuff to do on Market Square and Krutch Park which is just South of Market Square. There are interactive fountains and other stuff for kids to run around in.

Those are nice parks that knoxgarden recommended.

I'll also recommend:

Edgewood Park, located north of downtown about a block off Broadway. Not only does it have a neat little playground, it's also adjacent to a library.

Fountain City Park, located on Broadway in the Fountain City area north of downtown. Depending on the traffic, it could take a smidgeon more than 10 mintues to get there. But it's a wildly popular park and for good reason.

Tyson Park, located at the intersection of Cumberland Ave & Alcoa Hwy. The playground is right next to a nice creek.

All great choices, and might also go down to the river, at Calhouns, some great water spots, and also see the might big carps.

I vote for Fountain City park! It's just lovely with lots of friendly people and it's a block away from the duck pond. Lots of swings, etc., with a creek that runs through it and the art center is on the property. It's across the street from the Creamery Grille, which has great ice cream.

I like Edgewood Park, too.

Enjoy your stay!

We LOVE Fountain City Park! Fort Kid is fun too, but the last time we were there the upkeep wasn't as good as I would have hoped

Hope they enjoy it! we go to Fountain City park usually about once a week

I haven't been to IJAMS, but our daughter has been there numerous times with field trips and she loves it! I would definitely give it a try.

Mystic, it is funny that you mention Fort Kid and its appearance. I just read that they are going to tear it down. The article says that they are going to put up a jungle gym in World's Fair Park.

hik, I heard about that! Shane's boss was part of the team that built the original and Shane told me the other day that his boss was saying they are tearing it down and building another one of some sort-

THANK YOU for the link though, I hadn't found anything on it at all
