Do they have any red light cameras in Las Vegas/Henderson? I have asked several people who live here, and they all have different answers. I am thinking they don't, because after googling on said topic, several sites show that apparently they had banned it several years back. But then I don't know, because on a lot of intersections, there are camera-like white tube either on top of the light pole or on the traffic light pole. They look too similar to cameras to not be. So... do they have them in Vegas?

No ...we continue to support our libertarian heritage. You can run a red light if you like and they have to catch you "mano a mano".

No cheating with California technology.

Those cameras you see in nearly every intersection are for traffic control. Red light cameras are not legal...yet. They have them in Albuquerque and it has caused a huge controversy about whether they are for safety or for the city to make money. They apparently have caused a passel of rear end collisions.

The ones posted on the top of a pole near a street light are to activate the light. The ones on the taller pole or for the news/internet.

Nope...it's illegal in Clark County. You'd have to drive up to Pahrump to find them.

There is at LEAST ONE so far, it is located at Cheyenne and MLK on the SE corner. The intersection even states on a posted sign that the camera is used to enforce red light "running."

Yes, that is the only one I have seen so far. I states that is it just a test, to see if they are going to use it any where else in town. They are trying to get it passed.

According to the original news reports there are two. Cheyenne and MLK and Craig and Al Camino Norte (also MLK)

They are test installation and have no legal basis...the statutes bar their use.

Classically what has happened with them is they are put in on the basis that they lower the number of T-Bone crashes at the cost of more tail enders. But the general outcome is they become revenue sources because of revenue generated by a failure to stop fully on a right turn on red.

The right turn on red is more of a technical violation with few safety implications...but it is very common and creates a lot of revenue.

I would support the cameras if they were limited to running red lights....but I doubt they will be.
