You cannot own more than 3 adult dogs unless they are from the same dog family.

Like Buzz123, I also live in 89129 (Lone Mtn), and would highly recommend it. There are horse properties in the general vicinity, but also many nice residential properties that are simply homes on half-acre lots. We found our dream home here almost a year ago, and although we do have an HOA, there are relatively few rules and no HOA fee. (More like the neighbors just agreeing not to build tacky looking walls or painting their houses purple or keeping barnyard animals on the property. Just enough to make it nice without being too invasive.)

My impression is that the schools here are pretty good compared to other areas in the valley. Where we are is unincorporated Clark Co, not Las Vegas City. That eliminated a layer of bureaucracy for us. I love shopping and doing my errands up in 89131 and 89149 (Centennial Hills). I think the difference I see is that properties close to our area are single story with plenty of yard space, and Centennial has more 2-story homes with the typical small yards, which tend to be less expensive, but could be very affordable to buy as first-time buyers, vs. renting and dealing with pet security deposits. I don't know enough about the other Zip codes to comment intelligently.

One thing about this general area is it's more rural, so there aren't as many street lights at night or sidewalks except along the main streets. And I would say that wherever you decide to settle, personal safety will be an issue, but then I think that applies no matter where people live in the U.S. these days. There do seem to be a lot more pedestrian vs. car accidents and fatalities here than in other cities I've lived, so walking and driving defensively and using crosswalks is a must. Btw, if you haven't found them yet, you should google the various websites that would help you with your research. There are websites for crimeview, school quality, flood control district (avoid expensive flood insurance), Clark County Assessor's site will show you tax assessments and sales records on properties, Google maps will show you where the Nellis and NLV airports are (avoid noisy flight paths). And there are others. It's actually really great how much you can find out before you even come here to house-hunt. Lastly, I always advise friends to find an experienced realtor and follow their advice. That was the smartest thing we did in our hunt last year, aside from doing our own research in advance. It greatly reduced our house-hunting time, and it gave us peace of mind. Good luck with your search.

I had 5 dogs and 2 cats at one time here in Las Vegas (89147). Knew about the '3 dog limit', but still took in the occasional stray that would cross my path. Had an issue with an old neighbor a while back who was afraid of one of my dogs, and he tried to get me in trouble knowing that I had more than 3. He even called the police out once, and they honestly did not care that I had 5 animals in my home. They literally just rolled their eyes at the guy for even wasting their time about it. So I wouldn't worry too much, they obviously don't enforce it. It's more of a suggestion, like driving 55.

We came with 5 dogs and found a rental no problem as we looked for one that had dog doors already built in so we knew there was pets here before. There is a rule about 3 unless you buy a breeders license for $25...

You pick up the poop from five dogs?
And you have a toddler? Fun.

Don't worry, this thread is old enough to be almost done with teething.
