We had a daughter that went down last weekend for a bacholerette party, there were 12 of them, and no one gambled.
My son went to the EDC this year and could not gamble since he is not of age.
We had friends that went to a youth soccer tournament last Spring who I know did not gamble.
Also a family friend who recently went to Red Rock for climbing and didnt gamble.
I do know friends and family who go for gambling, but it seems less and less common. Is Las Vegas becoming less a gambling town?
Last May I spent a week in Vegas on business and it isn't even a town anymore. I don't know what it is, to call it a ghost town is being to kind in my opinion.

The longer I stayed the more depressed I became. From all the billboards it appears the only thriving businesses left are bankruptcy and divorce lawyers. Poverty everywhere I looked. So very depressing.

That said I never gambled. Spent part of my formative years living in Reno and I learned never to gamble.

Las Vegas Stats and Facts
Thank you Buzz for the information.
Although it does not answer the question specifically, it does suggest that gambling is significantly less important for visitors compared to years past.
Here is a few data points from the report:
Although the number of visitors has risen yearly equaling 2006 numbers, gambling revenues was down $1.4 billion or 14%.
Proportion of visitors whose primary purpose for current trip was to gamble (2011 compared to 2007) is down 36%
Average cost of visitor expenditures outside of gambling increased by 12%.
Proportion of non-gamblers to Las Vegas increased by 15%.
Average trip gambling budget (among those who gambled) was $448, down 19% from 2007.

I use to be a tourist who went to Vegas and didn't gamble. Now I have a 2nd home there and I visit all the time. The only reason I visit the casinos is for the restaurants, buffets and night life. I'll rarely gamble a little on quarter Keno, but after losing $40+, I feel bad and stop. I enjoy Vegas way more when I don't gamble.

BTW: NLVgal, reps to you for saying "My husband and I", and not, "Me and my husband", as so many do these days. I can't stand that ignorance and I bet it bugs you too.
I'm told that Lake Las Vegas is very nice, I hope to visit it, and congrats on your anniversary.

As far as the BTW goes, people on the internet have actually corrected my grammar when I said things like "My husband and I" I just shrug.

I had a great English teacher in my younger years here in Las Vegas and she made it very easy. She said
" Pronounce the sentence without the other person. Did *me* go to the store, or did *I* go to the store?"

Sometimes, when I actually listen to other people, I learn something.

I was in Vegas for a week, the week before last, and really didn't see too much in the way of signs of the downturn. I was both on an off the strip, and around the valley. Those billboards have been there for as long as I can remember (ie, before the recession.)

Really, I was amazed how good the place looked. I hadn't been back in a few years, and expected much worse.

This town has some of the purdiest views and natural landscape in the country if you ask me.
Next time you guys get a chance take a ride towards Hoover Dam on the 515. Get off at Horizon and hang a right.
Get your walkin boots on and head up Balck Mountain!
I see this glorious mountain right out of my kitchen window. I can almost throw a rock at it I'm so close.
That mountain view was the deciding factor when I bought my house.

Black Mountain!
Enjoyed seeing your video and music. It's nice to be able to see the natural beauty of your surroundings.

Only way I'd probably get up there though, would be via helicopter !

Now if she won $800 and only spent $100, I'd be happy for her $700 win.

I over think stuff sometimes HA HA And I can't not do the math. Same friend always brags about "free drinks" when gambling. Well, if she is feeding a machine and tipping $2 a drink...it's not really "free". Better term would be "cheap" drinks.
I understand exactly where you are coing from. Some people just see themselves as winning regardless if they actually lose because they were being "entertained" while they were losing. If that makes any sense. My father-in-law can lose $300 and have the time of his life doing it.

If I lose $20, I get annoyed and upset for even playing.
If I play $20 and win $500 off of it(which has happened twice), I feel that I need to exit the casino as swifly as possible before I get caught. For some reason I feel like I just did something illegal.
