I feel your pain about that. But in the end, I decided that I like watching games at the sportsbooks and saving money on my cable bill at the same time. As long as I can resist the temptations in the Books to do anything other than watch the games.

Nope.

Very spotty and inconsistent reliability and speed (unless you live right under one of their antennas), and using their modem device, you couldn't get a public IP directly assigned to your device. Their box acted as a router, and you had zero ability to configure it. The USB dongle didn't have this limitation, but for our needs (business use), it was absolutely terrible. They shouldn't even offer "business" service - there is literally no functional or technical difference between their "home" and "business" service. The only difference is the name of the package.

Their tech support is nothing more than a bunch of scripted idiots that have no understanding of networking whatsoever. Prior to trying them a second time, I spoke with their tech support people to get answers to some specific networking questions. I had to explain public vs. private IP space, and what a CIDR block was to this "technician." He put me on hold and came back after a few minutes and assured that they could do what I required. Surprise! They couldn't. Again, they couldn't even provide me with a static IP address, and there is no way to not have their box doing NAT. Both of those things are absolutely unacceptable for business class service.

I wanted to like them. Really, I did. I love the idea of wireless broadband, but their product is simply terrible. I'm glad that it works for you and that you're (apparently) happy with it, but I tried them twice, and both times, they failed miserably. I would never recommend them to anyone, and will actively dissuade people from trying them anytime I see their name pop up.
It's always worked for me. <shrugs> Although they're no longer expanding the network so I do see a day when I'll need to go back to DSL.

I got rid of Cox cable and I subscribed to Netflix and Hulu for half the price of basic cable. I also purchased a digital antenna. No more cable bills for me.

I have to say, I think the rates (after the promotional periods) are a bit expensive for Cox, however, my service has been excellent. My internet has only been down for 15 minutes total for the past year and my cable has never been out. Speeds are great as well. Only experience I've had with customer service is a request for a discounted rate due to my circumstances and received $10 off for the next six months. I'd vote Cox.

Plenty of threads already on this one, but technology does change over time. However, cable doesnt seem to be on of them. I have the cox cable/internet package. The video was so true. I lived in the UK and the satellite and internet was about 15-20 percent cheaper with better service and more channels available. British telecom did charge if you went over data on your packaged cap which was easy to do if you played games or downloaded a few HD movies from itunes.
While overpriced, cox does have decent 24 hour phone service and the internet speeds are as advertised. I have never been without service but I now wonder who has been for any significant time since the infrastructure has been improved since the early 2000s. I like having live sports so Im a sucker for cox.

Complain a little louder next time - you might get a bigger discount. Back in Jan, Cox raised my bill $15/mo. I called to let them know that I was going to explore Century Link and their Prism TV service if they didn't lower my bill. They lowered it $30/mo for six months. FWIW, after some research, I'm not sold on Prism, but that's a topic for another day.

Like many here, I want (need) live sports programming on ESPN/ESPN2/NFL Network. Cox provides the channel selection I want plus the internet speeds can't be beat. Their pricing is high, but I'm stuck with them until Century Link ups their game.

If you watch sports probably Direct. If not, Dish.

I use to have COX cable and now I have Directv. I much prefer Directv. It has more HD channels and a DVR capable of recording up to five channels simultaneously. Directv offers big discounts on the first year of service and then the cost reverts to about the same as COX. I do have COX internet but wish there was something better and cheaper.
