Nothing more unattractive than someone with a cancer stick in their hand.

Smoking in front of other people within a confined space is just rude anyway.

Yes.

And add to the fact that AC (apart from Borgata) is a huge ghetto, doesn't help either I'm sure.

Only 18% of all adults smoke, it is long overdue to get rid of it entirely.

Non smoking isn't really a reason for casino troubles except for possibly playing a factor in Revel's demise. When it opened it was initially a smoke free property but they had to change that policy a few months later. If anything is to blame it's probably the rise of casino in the states where Atlantic City's customers came from combined with not having anything to offer other than questionable beaches.

I think that it may be possible that the trend towards no smoking casinos may take hold with the rise of e-cigs. Cigarette smoking is just about one of the few things a person can do that affects the person next to them. However e-cigs have taken second hand smoke problems out of the equation. Right now the industry is unregulated so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years. But if e-cigs continue to become with smokers, a casino could have a e-cig only policy that could make everyone happy

Call me cynical. But I think eCigs are the tobacco industry's last-gasp (ha!) attempt to get another generation hooked on nicotine.

I wouldn't call you cynical. I'd say your probably right. It's amazing and scary how popular they have become and they are pretty much everywhere. Also in addition they aren't just for nicotine addicts, they also come in energy/caffeine varieties and well as a way to consume marijuana (a la Sara Silverman at the Emmys)

No, the reason why the AC casinos are going belly up is not because of the non smoking, but is because they relied on gaming for profits.

Why Las Vegas is doing well, not because of the allowed smoking, but because the casinos are not relying so heavily on gaming revenue.

Las Vegas has twisted and turned and become a complete travel destination, full of high end and middle range restaurants, star chef and celebrity restaurants, buffets galore, spectacular sights, attractions, opulent hotels, shopping, shopping and more shopping, spectacular high end nightclubs, celebrities, special events throughout the city, think rodeo, EDC, fights, UFC and shows of every kind.

Marketing Las Vegas to the millennial crowd {who typically don't spend too much cash on gaming} and providing what they want {the dining, shows, shopping, nightclubs, lounges, attractions and all things sleek and modern, think City Center, SLS and the Cromwell type décor, not themes anymore} has served us well.

Blessings

So lets all of us go to the smoke free casinos and drink until our livers burst (that is ok) drive drunk on the roads abuse the wife and kids get fired from our jobs for not showing up or to hung over or drunk to do our jobs correct then collect welfare or even better SSI for being a alcoholic and keep drinking BUT DO NOT Smoke a cigarette around anyone you are killing them !!!! The casinos are full of drunk people and the fat over weight ones who have to use a electric wheel chair to move around can not work but get a disability check each month to gamble with. At least us smokers pay a tax and give something back. Most casinos are very well ventilated except for the crying people who want to try to control people. China does not tax cigarettes their form of government is they own your ass!!! no freedoms or rights so do we ant to be like them???

The NE never needed AC for anything else but gambling. I live in NYC, and any other kind of entertainment I want BUT gambling I can get to in 15 minutes (I can find some of that also.) Now pretty much all the NE metro areas have closer gambling than AC, so AC is toast.

Exactly. We have laws in place to stop the practice of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated or high. That's because despite much effort, we are still not a country entirely made up of dumb-asses.

Smokers are free to do whatever they want as well, so long as they do not infringe on the rights of people who don't want to inhale their smoke.

And I frankly do not care if it is a little unhealthful or a lot unhealthful to inhale second-hand smoke. I don't even care if there is no health risk whatsoever. If a non-smoker doesn't want to breathe smoke. That's that. I'm old enough to remember smoking on airplanes. It was awful. And while I truly sympathize with the nicotine addict who gets the jitters after a couple hours without a hit, that's no reason to justify flying across the country in a plane that smells like a dirty ashtray.

We can group smokers in the "Cone of Silence" from the old TV show Get Smart. They can smoke outside, provided they're away from the general public. They can use gum, patches, and nicotine vapor to satisfy their addiction without offending anyone. (Although I'm not at all OK with nicotine vapor, as this is basically the same scenario as a beat up van with the words "Free Candy" on the side.) If eCigs are merely a means to extend the lives of current addicts, I'd be completely on board. But I see this as a means to hook a new generation and saddle them with the pain of addiction.

If removing smoking from casinos causes the entire industry to crash and burn, then it wasn't a particularly healthy industry in the first place.

In conclusion: Andy Kaufman.
