Yeah we can, because it will be a tourist tax.

He no! No public taxes for billionaire businesses! If the sports team is viable, they will build it themselves.

NO . . . Especially when you consider the number of home games played during a regular season.

what about UNLV games? Other events Vegas isn't attracting now? The Superbowl? Boxing events we are already losing to Dallas stadium?

Vegas needs this arena to move to the next level. And if taxing tourist a dollar more a trip is what it cost then lets do it!

Super Bowls are money losers. UNLV can still build their stadium and no boxing match is going to be held in a venue that size.

I was listening to this news piece on KNPR recently about the state of the stadium. I don't remember which news piece it was because there are so many of them on the stadium on their website recently.

Anyways, one of the points the pro stadium side brought up was that this kind of opportunity doesn't come around very often when a team is looking to move to a new city. That there are only 38 teams in the league and this becomes a chicken or the egg scenario. Do we build the infrastructure first and hope for another opportunity like this or do we take the team now and build from there what we need. They also explained the reason the estimate for the stadium went up to 2 Billion is because they included the amount for the supporting infrastructure with the roads, ect.

They also said that when a city gets a team that it's huge for a city and that it does generate revenue and revitalizes an area. New businesses come in and build up around the stadium and that creates a new tax base generating revenue which benefits the general population. These teams draw business. However, my take from it was that it really generates revenue for big investors because these are the groups that will be building around the stadiums. Not local Mom and Pop shops but chain stores you see all across the USA.

I thought I should include some of the recent pro side of the conversation since we're not seeing much of that in this thread. They also talked a little about the study of the proposed sites for the stadium and there are several audio pieces to listen to on that with the location on Tropicana, the Cashman Center that's going to be vacated soon, and the property that the owners have here.

When I listen to them talk about it with the way they talk about it I can visualize in my minds eye tourists from all over the world flying in to McCarran airport and spotting the brand new Raiders stadium somewhere along the strip like a shining jewel of the city.

Remembering the cities I've lived in or driven through and spotting their sports stadium from the highway it always gave me this impressive feeling. Like, "Here it is!" A grand city with a thriving metropolis that hosts one of the mega sports centers of the world. We always know the name of the stadium too and we say it with a sense of awe and wonder. It gives you this whole other feeling about the city that you don't get in other cities you visit without them. If that makes sense.

Did KNPR say where the 6 new teams would be located?

I predict that tourists will fly into McCarran because of the stadium. They will go to a game, stay in a strip hotel, eat at strip restaurants and gamble in strip casinos.

Having the stadium will lead to Las Vegas eventually getting a soccer team and hosting international soccer games. You talk about putting Las Vegas on the map even more so globally, thats one way.

You could just say there's 32 teams and not 38. Otherwise, it was confusing to me at first what you were saying since I don't really pay much attention to the NFL. I'm not the most ardent fan of football. I'm still not sure what the rules are and how it's played nor care to know. I enjoy the spirit though of others who are more enthusiastic about it. I get soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey but football remains a mystery.
