For those who either have a financial gain to be made, or have an irrational need to identify with the success of other peoples hard work, the answer is "not a chance". They will do anything to sell this bad concept. You will only see the rosiest of scenarios put forth, and all common sense will be ignored, and those who dare to oppose this "opportunity" will be ignored and shouted down.

It's probably a done deal, regardless of what the majority of the citizens want. That's just how politics and big business work unfortunately.

I guess you could call it drawing business and revitalizing the area, but that's probably not what the picture you see when you read/hear those flowery words.

And it really really comes down to plain old common sense. If pro football stadiums are such great investments, why aren't the billionaires who own the teams paying for them so they can reap those awesome rewards? Answer: the billionaires are smart enough to know that they are extremely poor investments for losers, which is why they try to fool the taxpayers into paying for them.

I've been a football fan since I was a kid playing tackle out in the street. (yes we did that back before helicopter parents, and <gasp> survived!) If the raiders want to move here, great, just as long as it's done without the obligation of the taxpayer. The taxpayers should not be considered as an ATM.
I am currently a 30 year resident of the Los Angeles area and I am planning on moving out the the Vegas Metro area after the New Year passes, and I'll tell you that the prospect of the Raiders moving to Vegas thrills me. I'd be willing to contribute tax money, although it seems pretty clear that the tourists will make up the majority of the public funding...seems to be a point that people on this board are forgetting. The Coliseum is a total dump, but it's like 100 years old and it belongs to the University of Southern California (USC), which is a private college, thus responsible for the upkeep and upgrades. They chose to let the stadium remain an antique.

The Raiders left because they couldn't get a new stadium and were not making money. Teams and cities need these new stadiums, believe me. The St. Louis Rams are now back here in Los Angeles this summer, and Stan Kroenke is currently building a new state of the art stadium south of Los Angeles and this community could not be more excited. They sold 70,000 season tickets already, and they don't even play at the new stadium for 3 years! I tried to buy single game tickets and couldn't. Everyone is talking about the team. Businesses are lining up to develop outside the stadium parameters. So many citizens on Inglewood will now have a job at the stadium. All the construction that is required will provide work for thousands of people. Having an NFL team in your city, and a brand new stadium will absolutely benefit the community. I watched what happened when the Raiders and Rams left here, and now I am seeing what is happening with the Rams coming back. Trust me, build the stadium. These billionaires know what they're doing.

Solid post, expect to see UNLV to the Pac 12 or Big 12 rumors start up when the stadium starts being built as well. And the stadium will do nothing but great things for Vegas

Yeah, I was a 56 year resident of Southern California, Rams fan all my life too. And the reason I left was morons who think spending tax dollars is free money. Once they start, they won't stop until they've spent generations into debt. I agree with you 100% that the billionaires know what they are doing. They are getting a pretty new place to conduct business, without the risk and long term commitment that comes from them investing their own money into it.

The reason the Rams and Raiders left is because they couldn't get a good enough deal that would limit their exposure to risk. And the Rams got a sweet heart deal in St. Louis. "What's happening" with their return is great...a private investor is putting up his own cash, and the community will have some benefit, but how much is a big question. Also what happened in St. Louis is probably the biggest reason to NOT build the stadium. It's great while it's shiny and new, but what happens 10 years later, and some other city offers a shiny newer place?

The only issue I have with the stadium, is that it should not be built with public financing in any way.

All this negativity is driven by the standard cities problem with hosting a stadium.

We are not any city. We are Las Vegas and have an extremely strong need to make sure and keep the strip as the world capital of hedonism.

The stadium for us is simply required infrastructure. We need it to perfect the strip. And we have to keep perfecting the strip. If we don't keep it way ahead of anywhere else we lose our edge and our ability to employ legions in well paying positions.

The Raiders are simply added value. There is some claim on the public purse by providing the UNLV Rebels with a home. Would it not be nice to get up there with the mid west land grant Universities? A lot easier than trying to compete with Stanford.

Stop worrying about how Adelson or Davis makes out. The strip casinos live off the common infrastructure. We need to continue to perfect it using this as another anchor piece.

We wish to be the best in the world and stay best in the world. If we forget the goal we will crash and become an also ran. The project is well worth the cost.

And we need more of it. Next the googlemobiles running on their private way down the middle of the strip...

Spend public money so that the billionaire boys club could have their toys. Oh and they don't and will not pay to watch, YOU will pay. Double Whammy! No make that triple whammy, instead of spending public money for the greater good of everyone, it will be spent on a few billionaires. No thank you!!

Surely opponents will get enough signatures to put it on the ballot. The polls generated by neutral parties are at minimum 2-1 opposed.

The politician behind the Atlanta Braves new stadium getting voted out in a runoff landslide this week probably sends a message to some of them too. Voters are fed up with cronyism. It would be funny to see this pass, lose in a referred ballot initiative, then have political careers ruined because of it anyway.

No since this will be paid for with a tourist tax it will go straight to the Nevada legislature to be voted on.

You're forgetting one BIG thing about the new LA stadium, that stadium will be 100% PRIVATELY financed!! So I'm saying, do the same here! NO taxpayer (hotel tax money) for a stadium. Enough of this already .
