Any new information on what people LIKE about living in LV? I am always interested in hearing more. Sure I suppose your unlikes would be useful too.

I love Las Vegas. I can pretend to be successful. Even though I own a home in San Mateo, CA, they all know I'm a lover, just like here.

I like the more predictable weather. I like that it feels like a small town.
I like the mild winters.
I like the no state income tax.

A shout out to the casino workers. I love the cocktail waitresses and the keno girls, the dealers and all the slot attendants, the ladies that give me my giveaways and the valet attendants. Charlie who empties the trash and ashtrays and cleans up my spilled drink, and the slot club girls who answer all my questions, the wait staff, bus and cooks at all the many restaurants, buffets and cafes.

Thank you for making that part of living here more fun and becoming my friends and familiar faces.

Picasso was asked back in the 30's why he painted these ugly, insane characters, and his response: The world is getting uglier and more insane by the day, why paint something beautiful!

And if he could only see a city like Las Vegas today!!!
What would he see?! Las Vegas is beautiful! The Strip is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the world. The skyline of NYC is extremely impressive, I love the Great Wall of China and I had a chance to climb a large section of it, the Eiffel Tower is impressive, there are many great sights but the Strip all lit up at night is one of the most beautiful.

Every place, by the way, has a seedy underside. The Hollywood sign is one of my favorite things to see, it always feels magical being able to see it, but Hollywood itself (like the Strip itself, which isn't formally "in" Las Vegas but unincorporated Paradise, Hollywood isn't a real city but a part of Los Angeles) is a total dump. It's unbelievable actually just how ghetto most of Hollywood looks, how trashy Sunset is on large stretches with porn shops, sex toy shops, cheap souvenir shops, etc. Yet the beauty of the Hollywood sign is still there. The Great Wall of China is poorly kept, it's often filthy, they have no proper bathrooms in most areas and instead just a pee hole in the ground. The Pyramids are located in an extremely lousy country that's one of the most unsafe to travel to but yet their grandeur still remains. You won't find many places that aren't both good and bad, so even though areas around the Strip are horribly cruddy looking, the Strip itself is a beautiful sight.

I'm not sure what you think is so great about school kids being dragged to a museum to see some art that they're going to hate. I had that "experience" as a kid and it was terrible. I even got the pleasure to spend about 10 hours in different Italian art museums, where I saw about 5,000 different paintings of Jesus. Jesus with his disciplines. Jesus under a tree. Jesus on a bench. Jesus at night. It wasn't inspiring, it was absolutely crushingly boring. That's not going to help any kid become more educated or more knowledgeable about the world around them, in fact it probably will make them hate art because you're always going to hate whatever you are forced to do.

If only there was some sort of... I don't know... connected network of some sort, where you could see all of the world's art without leaving your house, almost like a web of information and images, an interconnected network of everything the world has to offer, almost like an "Inter-net" or Internet, if you will. Boy, that would be amazing, then people could see all of these things on their own time without being bored to tears. One day, perhaps, someone will invent this "Internet." Who knows, I bet there may be a lot of money to be made on the thing! :P

Yes, nothing more beautiful than a bunch of knockoff buildings with styrofoam facades. Beautiful.

First, Picasso might love LV. The lens through which he viewed the world was much different than yours, and your personal perception of beauty.

Second, children DO NOT appreciate Impressionism art. You think a 9-year old cares about the differences between Post Impressionism and Cubism??

Finally, and MOST IMPORTANT - why in the world should Vegas, a town of just over 2million, even ATTEMPT to emulate the "offerings" from an area of 24million?? (SoCal).

I laugh whenever someone, including you, basically states that a building/museum/opera/etc., will give LV "culture".

Culture is organically created by the inhabitants, local businesses, residents, visitors and history, not by buildings and certainly not a building to display art which has NO relevance to the area.

That is not culture, that's fabricated elitism.

LV has its own unique culture, one which I love - just as it is.

I love living in Las Vegas. There is nothing like riding right out of my house into Red Rock Canyon followed by golf at one of our beautiful courses like TPC or The Summit. My wife and I have the choice of dozens of great restaurants in Downtown Summerlin. We tend to spend most of our time in Summerlin. We only venture to the strip for Knights games and shows. When we entertain guests they are very impressed how much Las Vegas has to offer off the strip.
