Playa Del Rey in CA? Do you know where that is? It is as close to the LAX runways as you can get. The residents may not be movers but they are certainly shakers, several times per hour.

Marina Del Rey, to the north, is quite nice. El Segundo, to the south, is not.

Not that bad. The parts that were really impacted were all torn down decades OK. There is a beach there that is pretty noisy but most of Playa is not bad.

For the purposes though of that reference I would pick Palo Verde or Santa Monica or Malibu or Beverly Hills. Playa is more low middle class. My wife owned a condo there until we married. She was an Executive Secretary and that would be typical for that area.

I bought 2 homes in Florida, still have the rental in Ohio.... One florida home I bought for 112k.. absolutely stole it.. just finished it... I'm in at 147 finished.... going on market next week for 239.. which should not be an issue since there just was a neighboring house (250 more square feet though), that just sold for 289. House that I live in now, I paid 110 and put 20 in (just spent 4,500 on new ac.. that hurt).. should fetch 175-180....

I've got the rental in Ohio (same tenant for last 11 years).. that's going on the market this fall.. that is going to be the loser for me... bought in 1995 for 150.. will sell around 180

put it all together and I could pay cash for a decent house in Vegas.. but I'd still be short for what I would want... (2500sf on 3/4+ acres, single story)

I think I'd be in the 500-600 territory...

They will still come, but the movers-and-shakers and real geniuses behind tech are always going to prefer Playa del Rey and Palo Alto to Summerlin and Henderson.

There has to be a certain "cachet" to an area. The heavy weights in the tech industry love places with good schools, and full of forward-thinkers that aren't hesitant to try new things. Nevada is a place that people from California go to because they didn't want to try to think outside of the box and do something different, they wanted the "Old California of the 1970s" and found it in Nevada or Arizona.

Different mentalities.
That's an interesting take. I was a tech worker when I moved here and came here for the sun, dry air, 24 hour entertainment, low cost of living, low property tax, and most importantly - complete lack of income tax. I've met a lot of other tech workers who have moved here for similar reasons, though perhaps not from California.

In my experience, most Californians move here, totally hate it, begin bitching about how everything is better in California, develop a snotty & miserable attitude, and then finally move back to California.

Is it a win or a fail to die with a lot of money?

A penny not spent is a penny never enjoyed. Good like spending it when you're gone.

If they have the means to do so, then yes.

Nope - Ex-Californians are the largest group of residents in NV. Many fewer natives.

And in general the Californians that move are willing to put up with the peculiarities of Nevada.

For instance advocating for an income tax will doom a politician even in the ex-CAs rich suburbs of Las Vegas.

I am sure that some yearn for the ocean or such and do go back. But most of us are very happy here and have no interest in leaving. If some set of circumstances required me to go back to CA I would do it but would not live in any of the coastal cities...inland at least 20 or 25 miles to get out of the sea coast plane
