Moving from CA to Vegas next week and in the process of switching everything over. My renters insurance went up $11 and my car insurance went up $73. Granted these are not huge amounts, but you always hear how expensive it is to live in CA yet the things I have transferred over to NV have been more expensive. Hoping my car registration will be cheaper, I assumed it would be but I have no idea now. Not impressed so far.

Crime and accidents...

Your vehicle registration is based on the value and age of what you're registering. New cars are pretty high compared to anywhere else I've lived. My 10 year old Jeep was only 175/year...

Thats dumb. CA has FAR more accidents than Nevada, just from the sheer number of drivers here alone. There are at least 5 times as many drivers here as there are residents of the entire state of NV, makes no sense. My insurance jumped from $109 to $205 which is absurd. Where Im moving to in Vegas also has lower crime compared to the area Im in now, so that makes no sense either. In fact, Vegas makes the top 10 safest cities in the country list for its size.

Definitely shop around for car insurance. I found prices to vary quite a bit.

Vehicle registration is on the higher side in NV, but probably fairly comparable to CA.

The big savings is no state income tax. People always complain about this or that being higher but forget that part.

Thanks, thats true about state income tax. Thats really big actually. I shopped around a bit but Ive been with Progressive for quite awhile now and they were the cheapest of the few major brands I checked when my rate went up. Not going with something like The General

He’s referring to car insurance. Wait till he sees how much the registration is.

What kind of vehicle do you drive and what is the msrp? If it’s a 2020-2023 and 40k or more… you are definitely not going to like how much plates cost. My Kia Soul was almost $600 a year for a plate.

The really frustrating thing is that the registration on this car I just bought is good until Nov of next year which I paid for. Now I get to go hand Nevada more money to register it there.

Park your car in the garage at night. There are way too many thefts of the catalytic converter.
