Wait, so now you're saying there are lots of people in the Las Vegas area who love rodeo? Just yesterday you said there was absolutely no one no one who could talk rodeo anywhere close to Henderson. I'm so confused.

For a small number of people, maybe. For the animals who are exploited for human entertainment? Probably not so much.

This rodeo discussion is out of control. Las Vegas is a convention city....SEMA, AVA, CES, and guess what? NFR. People flock to Vegas from all over the world to attend events - which includes rodeo. That doesn't mean there are people in big belt buckles and stetson hats on any given day at Costco, it is NOT a rodeo town. I have personal friends in town that have horses up in northern part of town, they do barrel racing with their daughter and have events every week in different parts of the state....just as there are little league games, bowling competitions, ice skating, etc. Rodeo is just another thing that people do, but in a city of over 2 million people, the odds of stumbling into a rodeo person at Walmart is pretty low. Therefore, it is NOT a rodeo town. Head out to Pahrump if you want more rodeo vibe...it is not Las Vegas, we told you that several times. The people that "pack UNLV" don't live in Las Vegas, they come out to watch the event, lose money in the casinos, eat good dinners, go to the Shelby museum, etc.

RosieSD, if I said that, I was wrong. It appears that most-to-all of the rodeo fans that go to the NFR are from other parts of Nevada and other states. However, UNLV has a rodeo team and I'm sure their team and their families/fans would go to the NFR, but that is a small amount of people compared to the population of Vegas and Henderson. I mean, South Point and the Strip hotel/casinos are full of rodeo fans during that NFR 10-day run, but who would stay (get a room) at South Point or on the Strip, if they lived in Vegas or Henderson? That would be a waste of money.

I hope this clears up your confusion.

Thanks, it does. Of course, a big part of why you picked Henderson was to be close to those events, so maybe you'll find that access will balance out the hotter months. On hot days, get out early, just like people do in Palm Springs or Phoenix, and as you've said, there are a ton of ways to stay entertained in cool AC in Las Vegas. Stay focused on the positives and you'll adjust to your new home and have some fun until your next move. Best wishes for a happy year ahead!

We've seen who goes to the NFR and "all around the world" doesn't.

We never said that Vegas, or even Henderson, were rodeo towns! What we did say is the NFR is in Vegas and that's the biggest payout rodeo of the year. World Champions come from that. Where we use to live wasn't a rodeo town either, but we lived there for 4 years and I had no problem wearing my western clothing and hat. Where we lived before, we had to pay airfare to fly to Vegas as well as pay for a hotel room there. That can be expensive. Living on the west side of the Rocky Mountains makes Vegas a whole lot closer and easier for us to get to.

And, on top of that, UNLV has a rodeo team, so there must be people in Vegas that attent their rodeos. And, not everyone loses money in a casino! One year, I won enough money on a $1 slot to pay for wife and I to attend two performances of the old (no longer have) Wrangler Winter Finals in June in Vegas.

When the weather finally cools down, we have read about an Equestrian Center/Arenas locally that we can go to and see what goes on.

There's some pretty long dry spells in LV between PRCA events.

AZ and CA are close enough to attend their events

I spend most of my time in LV at Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, and take the Utah National Park loop using LV as a hub.

Yup, the wind blows, but nothing like WY.

I've never had a car, or home with A/C, so I better steer clear of LV 10 months of the yr.

BB2- I've been sitting all this drama out but can't help but ask- RosieSD was kind enough to point out an upcoming rodea in Pahrump, which is a relatively short drive from Henderson. But you snubbed that and said you could just watch the Pahrump rodeo on the Cowboy Channel. If you are looking to meet people in your area who like rodeo, like to talk about rodeo and watch it live and/or on tv, wouldn't it make sense to go for the day to Pahrump as there is a high likelihood that if anyone in Henderson likes rodeo they may go to an event in Pahrump? You're not going to meet anyone in Henderson who likes rodeo by watching it on the tv and not really doing much socially.

We were luckily that our 2005 Durango w/182,000 miles on it made it to Henderson. We are driving it around locally, but driving it to Pahrump would be a "no". So, we'd have rent a vehicle. There are those older folks, like us, that would rather watch a rodeo on tv than drive to one too far away. Las Vegas is 20 miles northwest of us and Pahrump isn't that close. We can drive to the NFR in Vegas and have more fun than going to Pahrump.

And, just because a member points out a rodeo to go to, doesn't mean we have to go. It was a recommendation and that's it. Whatever folks tell us on this thread/forum is up to us to do or not do.

We will also visit the Equestrian Center in the area.

We know the interest in rodeo isn't in Henderson, just like it wasn't in Loveland, CO where we use to live. Sort of annoyed us, but not a thing we can do about it, other than go to the NFR in December when it's here.

All this rodeo talk. Once you get out of the urbanized parts of NV it is not unusual to find rodeo people in everyday settings. Must rural high schools have a rodeo team. Hell, there is even a specialized plate that supports the Reno Rodeo Foundation and the Nevada High School Rodeo Association. As far as NFR tickets and accommodations, those are usually gone a year prior, it has been like that for 30 years or so now now. That's about all I have for this discussion.
