I was playing Monopoly with my nieces awhile ago. On my turn, my 6 year old niece asked me, "Do you want to buy a hotel for your property, since you live in one in Las Vegas?" She was shocked to find that -gasp- I have an apartment out here! Lol. I've found that many people think that everyone who lives in Vegas resides in casino-hotels.

Another one of my faves is that people think prostitution is legal here. They assume that women can walk around and solicit themselves freely.. NOT TRUE! For one, selling sex is only legal in brothels in Nevada and it is only legal in counties with a population of 100,000 or less.. This is basically everywhere in Nevada EXCEPT the Las Vegas area and the Reno area.

Anybody else have any good ones? Or any non-residents think anything about us that they think is bizarre?

I had the same "live in a hotel" question numerous times- it was especially frequent during the time that I lived in an apartment complex south of the strip, as my address was 9000 S. Las Vegas Blvd.......lol

I wonder how you found it when there isn't such a thing as S. Las Vegas Blvd? There is, however, a Las Vegas Boulevard North, and a Las Vegas Boulevard South. Maybe that's what they meant. If it wasn't that way, there would have to be North Las Vegas Boulevard, which would be confusing to folks looking for Las Vegas Boulevard. But there isn't since Las Vegas Boulevard runs all the way from the south practically to Sloan, through Paradise township, the city of Las Vegas, and the city of North Las Vegas, all the way up past Nellis AFB and connects again with I-15 way beyond the racetrack. That's a misconception a lot of non-locals have.

I hear two things pretty often. People think Las Vegas is run by the Mafia and we are all either hit men (males) or prostitutes (females).

The other is this silly notion, "Yeah, but it gets cold at night doesn't it?"

I tell them, yes, it usually drops down to about 100º at night and that's pretty chilly.

Buzz, the street signs do state South Las Vegas Boulevard on this part of the street...maybe it has to do with being in Enterprise township or something like that, but the signs north of here like around Mandalay Bay do say Las Vegas Blvd, S....

I had heard that hotel rooms and meals were really inexpensive, since the casinos make all their money at gaming. Obviously...a rumor.

When my girlfriend told her (then) 11 year old son that we were moving to Las Vegas, he was scared - he didn't know what it would be like to live in a "big city".

We both found that very funny, as we were moving from Los Angeles...
