Hi guys from reading through your posts I'm understanding there are several suburbs around the Vegas strip that are nice.

So far I've heard of Summerlin, Henderson, and Green Valley. Can you tell me how far these suburbs are from the strip and if they're safe?

Also, please tell me about other suburbs that are safe and around the Vegas strip (15-20min)

Thanks and sorry for the newbie q!

Green Valley is part of Henderson

Depending where in Henderson or Summerlin you are coming from, it can be 15-45 minutes, at least I think so, and depending on the freeway or surface street traffic too...My family hasn't had to do the Henderson to Strip commute anymore, so it may be different now...and I am totally unsure about Summerlin but this is what I'm guessing...

there's parts of Henderson that are unsafe such as Water Street area

Most of Las Vegas is one giant suburb, its really not urban at all...

Some other places you could look at are the Northwest, Eldorado, and Aliante (can't believe I'm suggesting those, but they are "suburbs" per se, even though they are probably farther out from the Strip than you'd want them to be) and I guess if you had big bucks, places like Lake Las Vegas, which is in Henderson. There's also Anthem, MacDonald Ranch, and Seven Hills (all those are located in Henderson)

and Silverado Ranch (which is one that I would highly recommend, its in a better location than Green Valley or Summerlin to get to the Strip and has lots of shopping and restaurants)

There's also the Lakes and Peccole Ranch just outside of Summerlin...

Basically Las Vegas is one sprawling valley of suburbs. Most roads are good. Travel time is dictated by time of day. Wrong time of day 40 minutes to strip. Right time of day, same location, 20 minutes.

Safety boils down to exact neighborhood. Most of the valley is considered safe except parts of east Las Vegas. NW is considered safe. It is also descriptive of a very large area. So travel times would vary. Same is true for Henderson and Summerlin.

Not sure why strip travel is important for you, maybe job. If its for entertainment, don't worry about it. After the first 6 months you probably won't go there as often as you might think.

Good Luck and Welcome.

Download a zipcode map of Las Vegas, then search the threads here for the good safe zipcode areas and get on Realtor.com and search by zipcode. That will give you some pricing and an idea of what you get for the money. I can tell you good zipcodes are 89131, 89143, 89149, 89129, 89134, 89138, 89135, 89178, 89141 and in Henderson, 89052, 89044, 89012, 89002 and 89074.

the lakes and peccole ranch are just inside of summerlin... i.e. closer to the strip than summerlin (we're talking a mile or so, lol).

The Lakes and Peccole are not inside of Summerlin and yes they are closer to the Strip than Summerlin is, but they are not villages of Summerlin...
