My husband and I are thinking of moving to the area in the next few months. Ideally we would like to rent a house with a pool, a single-story 2-3BR house in a community that does not allow children. We are ages 60 and 52. We live near the beach in Orange County now and pay $2000 a month. It would be great to pay less than that. We may have to accept a community pool, which would be OK. Does anyone think this is realistic at all, or have any suggestions where/how to look online? (You always think there is some magical site that has the great places - am probably wrong about that

I also have a burning question that may seem nuts, but here goes: Searching online with the Google live local birds-eye view and other means, it seems like a lot of the houses have a backyard full of sand or rocks. Rattlesnakes absolutely petrify me. Are they a problem? Do you see them often? More than once? Ever? Sorry to bring up an unpleasant subject but it is a huge concern.

I've only seen rattlesnakes once at that was in Seven Hills when they were first constructing it and we were one of the first people to move-in, after that, we never saw one again, and we've been living here for 12 years...

you would want to check out (although i dont know the rental rates) Sun City Anthem, Sun City MacDonald Ranch, Sun City Summerlin, or Sun City Aliante, also any of the Soleras, Siena, or Ardiente, all of those communities do not allow children to reside within, but they are part of master-planned communities that do allow children (except Ardiente is its own community in North Las Vegas)

It really is just a choice of which area you would like to live in...

$2000 in the OC is a pretty good deal by the beach. Your probably going to pay less here in Vegas for a decent house with or without a pool, but it is not the same as living by the Ocean. As a Pool Tech, I would warn that having a pool can cost your extra $$$ because of maintenance (cleaning/chems) and electricity (running the filter pump). I have some customers that are in sticker shock when they find out how much their electric bill or gas bill (when they heat the pool). Just a word of warning, a community pool might be better if your on a budget.

Google del webb las vegas nevada and contact their offices for retals available would be my suggestion.

Or grab a realtor from this forum, there are several. $2000, yes.

Rattlesnakes, no. Backyards, yes most are stone (desrt landscape). Good Luck and Welcome.

Many thanks for all your help. We spent the past 4 days going all over, fell in love with two houses - one for $1950 with a gorgeous pool in Anthem, but that's so remote. We also feel that way about Summerlin. I have read the posts about Anthem and it feels like too much like the bedroom community we live in now in Orange County. The other was for $2250 with beautiful landscaped grounds and pool in (I guess) Paradise Valley, just perfect, and it had just been rented to someone else. We were so disappointed. We will check out everything you suggest here and DM Olecapt - I have been reading you for weeks and appreciate your posts. We visited Sun City in Anthem and, well, that's a whole new world. What we liked the best besides the aforementioned house was the Panorama Towers and a strip view, surprisingly. Someone said it's more for younger, more transient people, but they were at a competing building. We have lived in a high rise in South Beach so know what that's like, though we are wondering if anyone thinks the rental prices will go down in a month or two? It seems like there are so many available at the Panorama. Does anyone live there or have anything to say about it? My fear of snakes is completely alleviated - thanks!

Paradise Valley is very nice and convenient, as long as you stay away from Sierra Vista Cir! you are right about Anthem, its very far away!

Why not Sierra Vista Cir, LVkewlkid? We're back for the next few days again, looking. Decided to move by June 1st. Geez, we have burned through the selection on Craigslist. Anyone got any ideas where to ask for help or look online? We want a single story 3+BR, 2BA, double garage single family home with private landscaped pool and view of the backyard from at least one of the rooms.

Panorama Towers is really nice, and the prices have dropped tremendously there, but there are a ton of foreclosures and many empty units (not necessarily a bad thing as stuff like the pool and weight room will be less crowded). I believe it is less than 50% owner occupied, which means banks won't loan to anyone looking to buy, which is not helping the situation. I don't live there but I have looked into it, and I have talked to several people that do live there. All of them love it, but they are a younger crowd. The consensus is that it is full of poker players and strippers/escorts, and definitely would fit the description of a younger, more transient crowd.

Based on what you said you are looking for, I don't think you would be too happy living there.
