I know this has nothing to do with house hunting, but it is Las Vegas history. Here is a link to the site of a group that we've been associated with. I even came up with the name, Silent Heroes of the Cold War, and wrote a little piece to be used in the memorial. Many local hikers are aware of the plane crash site near Charleston Peak, but most people don't know about the mission of the passengers and crew.

If you haven't seen it, the movie Casino is amazingly accurate. The book is different from the movie, and a lot of it may be self promotion by Frank Rosenthal, but it is worth the read for anyone interested in LV history.

MCM homes or Mid Century Modern Homes or Architecture is different than Mid Century Ranch style homes. Both unique and classify as Mid Century. Vegas has a mix of both, and offer an alternative to stucco box neighborhoods. Paradise Palms = MCM mid, Mcneil Estates = Mid Century Ranch Homes.
Anyone intersted in meeting other like minded individuals with a passion for preservation, history, architecture of the Mid Century Modern era, or post war era should attend meetings with the Atomic Age Alliance at The Atomic Age Alliance is a volunteer organization dedicated to celebrating historic Mid Century Modernism and Atomic Age design, signage, architecture, culture and business through ongoing community advocacy, activism and educational programs Meets the second Wed of every month at a different location. Perfect for those that reside or love all the neighborhoods referenced in this and many other threads.
Thanks for the info. I might look more into it.

I remember when Casino was being filmed. They used one of the houses on Tioga Way facing away from the National Golf Course. My buddy lived on that street and got to meet Joe Pesci. That was a while a go... 1994?

Hey Buzz, I wanted to read all about this but the links don't work. You can't click on them. Since you know these folks maybe you could let them know it's not working. I've heard about this crash but never knew any of the details.

I hope people will work at preserving the MCM homes that are left. They are so well suited to the Vegas climate and lifestyle. In some areas of CA, Palm Desert/Springs, MCM homes actually command premium prices just for the architecture. There are yearly tours of these homes sort of like Parade of Homes is to new construction. One of the great architects out there was Eichler. Lots of info on him on the web. I've never heard of him building any homes in Vegas but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple. I wonder if anyone has done a book on Vegas MCM's?

I did meet a woman in Paradise Palms who was sort of trying to FSBO her home. Her house used to belong to Juliet Prowse! For those of you who don't know who she was, she was a great dancer, very beautiful, and she had great legs! It was a great house and way over my price but it was lovely. I only got to see the outside because I was just talking to her in the driveway.

Does anyone know why the step down tile tubs? Just clean and modern?

YS, I just went to the Silent Heroes site and everything was working just fine. Do you have a firewall or something that might be blocking access?
