I miss the Lexington of the 70s and early 80s and am looking to return. If someone were looking for such an area, without risking buying a (overly) dated house that was a cost sink in repairs, what areas come to mind?

Or is that Lexington totally gone?

I definitely wasn't here then, but how about Brookhaven/Lansdowne, or over by Southland Park (Twin Oaks), or Beaumont Park ... just a guess that those might fit what you are thinking about ...

Chevy Chase- but that's more like the (best of the) 1950s.

I would think that the same neigborhoods you liked then, you would like now. You may find one already updated.

What price point will you be in? That will keep us from recommending something like Shadeland-East if you're more in Lansdowne-Merrick price range.

When I think of the best of the 70's areas, I tend to think of the lower Tates Creek area and around Lakeshore Drive/The Island. Those seemed to be the hot new areas at the time......back when everybody went The Merrick Inn and John Y Brown was partying away on Old Dobbin. Then by the mid 1980's, Hartland was the talk of the town.

Lexington of the '70s and early '80s is gone. The housing is still here but the people have progressed and many of us would like to stay that way. Many of the suburbs which were hot then did not age well and it shows. I would drive through what you remember and look for quality, both in the maintenance of the housing and the neighborhood. If it is not there keep moving down the road till you find it.
