Plainview does have a good location for commuting by car.

Plainview is just south of the LIE and the Northern State. And the SOB runs right through Plainview with several exits. You can take the SOB to the Southern State so Plainview is well connected to both the North Shore and South Shore routes.

To the OP, I am not sure why there are so many houses for sale in Plainview atm. One possible reason might be that alot of the older homeowners (it looks like much of Plainview was built up in the 60s) might be wanting to get out at the same time.

Yes but the commute by train is kind of annoying. You have to drive to Syosset, Hicksville (which a friend who lives there does and he says parking sucks), Bethpage or Farmingdale. Not that it's so far in terms of mileage, but it adds to the commute. Also lots of splits/splanches. Not my taste.

Looked in Plainview, bought in Syosset. Similar comps, better (slightly) schools and transportation (LIRR). Prices will need to drop in order to move the inventory, I've not see taxes go down in my lifetime.
