I think the most important thing that you're fogetting is where is your closest hot dog stand...and with that, where can you get a good hot dog with crisp, toasted buns. No one likes those soggy buns.
I'll check out your blog thanks Anthony and I'm bringing my BMX with me from London so I'll have some wheels at least for getting to the station in the morning.
You'll be surfing at Laurelton Blvd, but I think the city is working on allowing surfing in the west end this summer. I never surfed west of Laurelton, but it's basically the same all over Long Beach Island. Some people have their favorite spots. Lincoln is the most popular. Lido beach gets great waves too. Right now you can surf at any beach, but once beach season starts after Memorial Day which is at the end of May, you are restricted to either Pacific which is where a lot of beginners go, but great waves, Lincoln and Laurelton.

Just a warning, Minnesotta Avenue in the West End. Parking is tough over there! haha.
Where isn't parking tough around here? I know you hate my comments about Lb, but really I'm being rational for once. Parking in LB? hah!
And I don't know that the West End is great for children. The streets are really narrow so forget things like playing ball in the street. It's just too narrow with the cars being parked there.
I moved to Long Beach from Ireland with my wife and kids (2 & 5) two years ago. At first we had a short term lease in the westend, we then moved to the eastend. Much prefer the eastend its quieter and more family oriented. Our oldest is going to the local pre-kindegarden, Blackheath. He absolutely loves it. We rent ($2000 pm) the top floor of a really nice house on a nice street, three blocks to the beach and a 3 minute walk to the train station. I am a carpenter that works locally and my wife looks after a kid as well as our own two. We love Long Beach, if you have any questions just shout, good luck with the move.

Hi Donegal, thanks for the info.
My Mom has an uncle in Donegal actually....I guess that's where you're from?
It sounds like you guys are in the same situation as us, my wife will also be a stay at home mom with our 2 young children (except I'll be traveling to the City everyday). I'll look up that school thanks.
A question for you on banking and stuff - how did you bring money over when you came? Did you pay your deposit etc before you came?
And is it difficult to open a bank account?
Did you leave your bank account open in Ireland?

Thanks Anthony - I didn't realise you couldn't surf all the beaches along the Long Beach coast. Does that also include early in the morning...6am?
I'll mostly be an early morning surfer before the crowds and wind pull in.
I was hoping I could just walk to my closest beach in the morning and have a quick surf before work...
