I'm not going to be able to drive for the near future, due to a medical condition. I live in Riverhead and work in the industrial park in Hauppauge. I've checked some carpool sites and didn't find anyone making the same trip. Useful public transportation doesn't exist.

Am I missing any options for making the trip?

What about those 'Dollar Vans'? Generally they run the same routes as the regular buses. Sometimes they differ, if there's enough customers at the pickup & drop-off sites. Maybe ask a few folks at the place you work.

Find out if anyone is car pooling or, if not, try to start a car pool.

I knew someone who car pooled from the Bronx to New Jersey. The driver charged all those who he picked up in the AM and returned in the PM a monthly fee that was much less than they, individually, would've paid if driving by themselves, and every 3 years or so, after paying all tolls and fuel costs, the driver had enough in the till to buy a new luxury car for the daily car pool. Everybody gained.

It is possible to make the trip via public transportation. The S62 bus travels between Riverhead and Hauppauge. It looks like it goes right to the industrial park.

Here's the Suffolk County bus map: http://sct-bus.org/links/030811_sct_systemmap.pdf

Here's the S62 schedule: http://sct-bus.org/links/schedules/s62.pdf The fare is $1.50.

Alternatively, if you can catch one of the few LIRR trains that goes to/from Riverhead, you can go to Central Islip and try to call a car service from there. The schedule is below:
http://mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Branc...komaBranch.pdf

The fare is $7.75 for the train, or $175 for a monthly pass.

It would definitely be more convenient to carpool, but public transportation is an option.
