Instead of all of this utterly silly and unproductive negativity, I invite folks over to a much nicer thread.

I agree. I love the holiday season and the kids get a kick out of this Santa on the firetruck thing. I'm 30 years but albeit a kid @ heart and it makes me smile whenever I see Santa.
(Ps- mr jolly fat man, I would like an engagement ring from my boyfriend. I have been so good all year- please let him know).

Thank you! That's what it's all about! Not about insurance polices!
They should not be using property tax funded equipment for this purpose.
Oh come on Walter, I'm sure if each fire district held a referendum on this, it would overwhelmingly be approved by every community on Long Island. Like others have said, it's a quality of life improvement -- no different than a parade, festival, fair, Christmas tree & Menorah lighting event, etc.. And I'm sure the insurance company is notified of the use of the vehicles and vollies in use for these type of events when the contract is written up. It's a QOL improver. Lighten up. At least we're getting some kind of service for all the taxes we pay.

I have a better idea. For the pennies on the dollar it would cost me, maybe we can all chip in .22 cents so we can take out a policy to take Santa out? .22 Cents times tens of thousands of people you collect from to put a smile on kids faces during difficult times = Priceless!
Maybe something you want to Volunteer for your community? Priceless!

He has another agenda.
I grew up in Hicksville and they go around the Sunday after Thanksgiving and throw popcorn balls to everyone. As a kid it is an exciting dayday and I bring my kids back there now, never missed a year. I see the community still LOVES it based on all the people outside waiting. Maybe if they took Santa off the truck it would be fine for some?
Walter does have a point. Why should government resources, however trivial, be used for one religious reason but not any other? If they ran around playing Santa to just their own families, or only to certain households I think everyone would be singing a different tune. It is wasteful spending, no matter how small.
Walter is just jealous Christians are enjoying their holiday
