This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Nassau cops get practically zero supervision. Nassau cops actually show up at work at designated locations ( usually a vollie firehouse parking lot). A supervisor does not know if the officer is late or not nor does anyone inspect the officer for uniform appearance, groomimng etc. In fact a Nassau officer could go days w/o ever seeing a supervisor.

The most important thing lacking at major police scenes is a supervisor. Things will probably change big time because the new Commissioner is absolutely in shock at how things are done in this Dept.

A newsday report states more officers may be involved in having sex with a woman in a van while they were on duty. The new commish wants to lay down the law possibly firing officers as he sees fit. What a disgrace this organization has become over the years. One would think the generous pay packages would prevent things like this from happening.

There will be a vote coming up in the legislature granting Dale new power for discipline, some say it grants too much power. The contract indicates otherwise so we will see. Imagine the statement below, giving an executive the right to fire goes to far.

I would have loved to see what the arbitration panel proposed on tedesco, 20 day suspension. Imagine would would happen for a normal company if someone was sleeping around on company time 57 times, they would have fired everyone up and down the supervisory line, but in Nassau County that's would be going too far.

"Nassau County police Commissioner Thomas Dale wants to lay down the law on officers who disgrace the badge and impugn the department's reputation.
Dale's efforts to broaden his authority to discipline department employees face resistance from Nassau's largest police union and some Democrats in the county legislature. Critics of a bill that would give Dale the power to directly fire employees say it goes too far."

Yeah, the new Commissioner is a smart cookie. Right now he's fixing the problem by getting rid of precincts and combining command staff to get rid of supervisor positions. How can that fail?
