THE LIRR is pretty neglected in terms of the MTA funding and leadership is to blame. Its always been a leadership problem , going back to the birth of the Railroad. Compared to the MNRR or NJT which are 2 of the best Railroads in North America...although both can improve some more. The MNRR and NJT have replaced most of their original tracks , Wires , 3rd Rail , substations , stations , bridges and restored the tunnels which is the reason for the better service and faster recovery although Sandy badly damaged a few Main lines on both systems.... But a Nor'Easter like last night wouldn't do any damage to the MNRR and NJT. As for Overcrowding at Penn Station , then original station should have never been torn down....but thats the past the Feds should fund the New Replacement station which would be 2x the size of the current station.

What leadership? It seems the only thing LIRR management, including and especially Helena Williams, is PR. Like the record-breaking monthly on-time performance Ms. Williams continues to plug, maybe the record-breaking performance is only on her trains because everyone else has generally miserable service.

Shes horrible , but look at how fast the MNRR came back on line along with the Subway system dispite the severe damage to some lines...
4 hr train ride from Penn to ronk last night. All from 4 inches of snow. Way to go lirr!
Well, at least they didn't just close down the railroad... no wait, they did!
They're so bereft of any responsibility to the commuter that the new standard is to just shut down. No fuss, no muss, no delays, we're closed. It's happening more and more.
All of this in light of a huge fare increase... which I have a feeling will happen more and more as well.
Can't wait to hear H. Williams give her complimentary comments about the LIRR's personnel during the Sandy disaster. But that won't happen for a while, since the LIRR is still recovering.
