Almost all of Westbury was out for 36 hours, from just before 2AM Sunday to 2PM Monday. And I'm one of the lucky ones, most outages still havent been fixed. This affected Post Ave, Maple Ave, pretty much the whole town except NE portions. Carle Place was out too. This was because of a tree on a primary power line. No LIPA trucks were seen at all on Sunday, and I didn't see any this AM. I finally had power when I got home this evening.
LIPA was completely unprepared, they didnt have enough crews or organization. There are STILL 350K out tonight. Meanwhile in NJ PSEG restored 400K of its 700K customers out.
I feel bad for all the businesses in town, esp food related, they probably had the throw out alot of spoiled food. You'd think they'd (LILCO/LIPA) have learned something after Gloria.
I think if a real hurricane comes here I'm leaving LI.

You are like the boy who cried wolf. Man up and show LIPA who is boss and leave.
I had power until late Sunday and then it went out..after the wind had stopped.
I lost power for almost a week when I was a kid during Gloria in 85, so I expected this from a real hurricane with 90 MPH winds, not from a tropical storm with 60 MPH winds. Whatever, I have relatives with power so we're spending time there.
There have been crews out there working 16 hour shifts since Sunday. If your town hasn't cleared trees then LIPA can't come do their work, so the towns have dropped the ball too. If you look at the power outage map on Tuesday several areas have had thousands of people's electric restored. They can't be everywhere at once, what do you expect one LIPA worker for every household on Long Island?
And BTW, just because you don't see the trucks in your neighborhood doesn't mean they aren't there. They could be working on your transformer that is located ten blocks away from you.

Really?? You're whining about 36 hours of no electricity?? Things could be worse! Your house isn't flooded up to the second floor with a tree sticking out of the roof!!
LIPA had crews on standby from Saturday afternoon, but they weren't allowed to start to work until the winds died down on Sunday. My husband is one of those crews.
Previously you complained that the storm was overhyped. Some of us realized this, but took precautions -- just in case. Knowing thatvfriends who had lived in Suffolk were without power up to 10 days post Gloria, I was ready.
We lost our power around 6 AM Sunday morning. Yesterday we drove around and saw what looked like a war zone with fallen trees and destroyed LIPA poles and downed wires. As a reasonable person, I didn't expect to see power for at least another 5-6 days. Imagine my surprise when at 9:30 this morning, my power was restored.
LIPA has 1,100,000 customers, and at one point almost half were without power. Right now approximately 25% are not restored.
Some beyotch on the Three Viilage Patch FB page was complaining this morning that she lost phone and Internet for *GASP* SIX WHOLE HOURS yesterday.
JIW -- your post isn't much better.
