I'm have been on a contract plan with a local provider who usually charges fifteen to twenty cents a gallon off retail.
Today's delivery charge was $4.29/gallon. This seemed higher than it should be. For reference I use this link::
Average Home Heating Oil Prices - NYSERDA

I know prices are much lower with COD, introductory rates etc. etc. I do like the customer service with this outfit (have been with them over 20 years) though.
Would appreciate if anyone who is a long term (non promotion) customer with a full service contract would post what they paid for recent (within last four weeks) home heating oil delivery.
thank you in advance.

Swezey fuel, locked in over summer. $3.59 gal. Free service contract, not a promotional price.

Yes the $4.29 sounds about right for full service dealers. Those customers who don't play the COD game, call around, match prices, etc. The $4.29 would be for those who use the same company for burner maintenance, etc. For many, they feel this price is worth it if they need someone at 2am when the burner fails when its 20 degrees outside. COD is always cheaper.

If you locked in with a full service dealer you probably are doing OK as opposed to the variable price every delivery.

I'm capped at $3.799 through next July, with a discounted service contract. I was able to use rates for NYPIRG fuel buying group as a bargaining chip with a firm that I've used for 25 years. I know I could do better on price, but the company I use is outstanding for customer service, while some others mentioned in this thread have scads of complaints on the Better Business Bureau web site.

If you're a longtime customer there, why not talk to someone about the problem? If they want to keep you, maybe they can do some negotiating. The oil business is extremely competitive these days. Another option for you might be to convert to gas when your contract is up. I recently did some research and found that gas on LI is 40% cheaper, so it shouldn't take that long to recoup conversion costs. I believe someone has started a thread on oil-gas conversion.
