As mentioned, the OPs biggest problem is the Siberian Husky. In my many years of renting, I've come across maybe two apartments that allow dogs and both had to be under 20lbs.
You can get a 1 bedroom apartment in someones house for about 1000-1200, sometimes with utilities included. I've seen some in Nassau and Suffolk. We happened to luck out and find a 1 bedroom with everything included for $1400 (yes lucking out is 1400 a month in rent, but we're in a great area). I know co-workers of mine who live in Queens and work here in Melville and since its going against traffic, its probably not as bad.
Any move to a new place is a big deal. As far as the OP's situation, I think they need to think long and hard about the kind of lifestyle they want to live. If this was the same opportunity, but in NYC, I'd say maybe go for it. Since its Long Island, I'd think long and hard about what they are willing to sacrifice.
To move a 2BR apartment from LI to Queens cost $1K. I can't imagine what it would cost to move an entire house to another state --- $5K, $8K?
Since you seem to have thousands laying around, maybe you can help people to get out? Saying "you would make back 10-15K in one year" does nothing for anyone who doesn't have the money to move in the first place.
Cost me $3K to move our 3Br 2ba/finished basement house 600 miles 3 years ago. Well worth every penny. We got back that from our escrow account so paying for the mover was essentially a wash!
There are places to go that can be affordable if you look. Here in blue ridge condos in Medford there is a 1 bed 1 bath for $1350 a month.
Cheaper rental and living is available on long island if you know where to look.
