Let's pretend you're not from LI and have the opportunity to come here to attend an event.
You're planning on staying a few extra days.

You have the preconceived stereotypes that this is all traffic, serial killers, guidos, and princesses in expensive homes.

I have to show you good things to do or see on LI which break the stereotype.

What/where do I suggest?

Any of the non-beach "nature" stuff - places like the Planting Fields Arboretum or similar.

If you're talking full-on day trips, the little towns along the North Fork are pretty and don't play into the stereotypes too badly.

Manhattan. Ooops, sorry. Depends where the person is from, doesn't it. Beaches, of course. The best thing LI has is the word Island. Bays, ocean and sound. The interior is just a glorified strip mall and non-gated housing development.

how are the farm stands on the north fork? the ones on the south fork are crazy expensive.. $8 for a bunch of asparagus, $6 for 1lb of strawberries, etc..

I haven't been in a few years, but the last time I went the prices were pretty reasonable. Overall, the North Fork lacks the "Hamptons Tax" that jacks up all of the prices on the South Fork.
