Arrrgggghghhhhh!! WTF?!? What planet do you come from?! How do you conjure up this horses*it?!? Do you really believe it?! INDUSTRIES get money from SALES!! Not TAXES! The "PUBLIC" does not pay into it at all unless it's something the person (not THE PUBLIC) wants. Private sector jobs and money have NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING to do with the issue of teacher salaries on Long Island. NOTHING!! Get it thru your knobby skull. NOTHING!!!

And again, the GOVERNOR has NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING to do with teacher pay rates outside of Albany or State schools (and even then it's the Dept of Ed or NYSED which has a connection to the Governor but acts independently). Long Island are not STATE schools. The teachers are not STATE employees. Their pay scale is not set by the STATE. Their contract has NOTHING to do with THE STATE!!

The price of gas is only relative when the TEACHER UNIONS and local LAWYERS and SCHOOL BOARDS negotiate contracts and use it to prove high cost of living. No Cuomo, no pharma, no PETROLEUM ENGINEERS in the process. No PRIVATE sector money. THE GOVERNOR DOES NOT SET THE PAY anywhere. Bureaus of Labor and Civil Service set wages. Get your head out of your azz before you suffocate from the stench.

OK, mods. The troll wins. Go ahead and close the thread! It's just a bowl of idiot soup now anyway.

Even more amazing in Long Island the vast majority of teachers are women. I think they are worth 100K since they have a masters degree.

But my issue is similar jobs in the 100K range require folks to take 7am train to city and arriving home at 7am and paying for train and subway and working 50 weeks a year. Plus no pension after 25 years and no free medical for life. Other issue is you are often paying 2-3 teaches at once.

Lets say you own a small business. You hire Joe at 21, he stays 25 years till he is 46 and quits then you hire Paul at 21 he stays 25 years and quits at 46 and then you hire Peter at 21 and he stays to 46 and you just hired a new guy, guy four. Lets say the salary is 100K a year. I private world only the last guy is getting paid.

In teacher land.

Joe if he was alive and 97 he is getting paid 100k, Paul is alive and only 71 he is getting paid, Peter just retired and is 47 is getting paid and the new kid just hired is getting paid and you are paying all four peoples medical.

Add in the administrative and union cost and it really adds up.

Teachers are not in a economic sense taxpayers. They do not contribute to GDP.

Meaning they do not create wealth. For example lets Pick Roslyn NY out of the blue. Sally is a teacher in Roslyn and makes 120K, she lives in Roslyn and pays 10K in school taxes. So Roslyn gets a check of 120K from the school district and just gives back 10%.

Larry starts a business, he hires ten workers at 100K each and all ten pay school tax of 10K each. He is putting 100K into school district.

Back when Chrysler, GM and Ford was almost bankrupt they tried to Force employees to only buy their cars. Paying someone money which they use to buy your own product is a big fat circle jerk. Money has to come from outside

Finally, this stat bugs me the most. Most female teachers are married so that 100K income is just a second income. So nearly all husbands work. According to the book "The Millionaire Next Door" the number one occupation of Male Millionaires wifes who work is a school teacher.

So a women making 100K for a part time job whose husband is a millionaire crying she is underpaid is funny.

The teachers working for a school district are employees of the taxpayers of that school district. Plain and simple.

Do all of the teachers within a particular district live and work within said district? No. Only a fraction of them are both employee & employer.

And, as someone who is drawing a check from the schools, wouldn't it behoove them to see the budget pass year in and year out whether they only live, or live and work in said district?

You just don't get it.

You're comparing apples with oranges.

Taxes or sales, choice or not, it's still comes from the publics pocket. Looks like the motto you guys have is "if you pay for the product/services, you should also be able to determine the workers salary."

The Bureaus of Labor and Civil Service hmm and who oversees that..is the Royal King of Saudi Arabia or an elected politician? If you don't like public sector salaries then you should take some real action and run for political office. If that doesn't work then I suggest you hire Kris Jenner as your publicist. She'll get your message in every tabloid and perhaps even get you Long Island tax haters your own TV show. There you go, I gave you ideas on ways to make change. If you don't want to actually work to make change and rather sit on your behind all day and complain about it (while be delusional and thinking that posting on an anonymous internet board is getting the message across and promote change) then things will stay the same. Have a nice day.

Hey trollie, better to have people think you're stupid than to keep posting and remove all doubt.

Yes, telling you to run for county executive or some other political office when you're this upset about public sector infrastructure and pay is absolute terrible advice. You're right, it's better to sit around all day whine about it on an anonymous internet board. Misery sure does love company.
