I think that info is pretty tough to find out. Years ago a friend of mine had a booklet with different starting salaries at the different steps. She got it from a friend who was a member of school board. Anyhow, this is about five years ago, and I can't remember specifics, but GC pays quite well, and Malverne is one of the lower paying districts. I don't remember Baldwin, so I imagine it was in the middle of the pack. I worked as a leave replacement in Malverne (MS) before my son was born (2002-2003) and it was around 48K for Masters, 1st year (no credit for pvt school). Coming from the Public Libraries and a Private School, I was happy. Nassau's higher than Suffolk in general. If you go to Newsday School Report cards, you can get a little info about average pay etc.

Even the city teachers earn $100k now. And, all of the cops in both Nassau and Suffolk eventually earn more than that. Salaries just are escalating for public employees (and stagehands).

Well, to be fair, all teachers aren't making 100K. It depends on the number of years in the district, Masters plus additional credits, plus coaching, clubs, homework centers and whatever additional activities the teacher does. I don't think it's unfair to say that the longer you've been around, the more likely you are to get assigned plum "extras" like chaperoning dances, running programs and other stuff that bumps your salary even more. BAs out of the starting gate aren't making close to 100K.

To be fair to the Nassau cops, the starting salary is $34k it takes at five years to reach the top pay which is around $90k. Many of them do make over $100k but that is because of the overtime... time away from their families and placing themselves in danger.

But look here, all of the county's top executives are lining up for huge raises starting January 1.

Quote:
The proposal would increase Suozzi's $109,394 salary to $174,614, effective Jan. 1. Comptroller Howard Weitzman's salary would jump from $108,670 to $166,300. Assessor Harvey Levinson and County Clerk Maureen O'Connell, who both now earn $100,000 a year, would earn $166,300. District Attorney Kathleen Rice, who earns $150,000, would be paid $166,300 next year.

Some of those jumps are obnoxious...but should the DA for a county the size of Nassau only be making 150k?...Even at 175-200 it would still be a big cut from attorney work at that level in the private sector. Just sayin', some of these jobs are quite significant. Of course I also do not see the need for the entire extra layer of government we have on long island in general...but seeing that go away is a pipe dream.

FOIL the district. That is info they can release.

One man in my district FOILed all teacher's salaries for 00-01 and posted them on his website. It wasn't pretty! Recent hires were making around 40-50K, teachers closer to 20 years with their masters and such were in the 90K range. Six years later, one can only imagine how much higher they are.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think a reasonable starting salary for a teacher is? I'm not going to get into a debate about the usefulness of teachers, but it just seems like people who complain about how much teachers make, are often also people who pride themselves on their great addresses and good districts. You get what you pay for.
